During L BW week local businesses could offer discounts on products or services due to media attention generated by WCIH's reporting from around town during that particular week. On August 3rd 1985, ABC affiliate WBBM (Channel 7) announced they would move from WCIH's transmitter site atop Mount Carmel hill in west suburban Skokie to take over operations of VHF channel 10 (the former channel 7 allocation for Fox affiliate KUMU) which had been owned by CBS Corporation since 1951 when WCJB took over operations of KTLA from KMCL/KBBL/KCNA after KMCL sold its share in KBBL to NBCUniversal Broadcasting Company effective October 1st 1951). On September 25th 1985 owner Paramount Pictures Television subsidiary Buena Vista Television Networks LP filed paperwork with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) related to transfer of ownership(s) of all UPN affiliated stations except WBBM which had already transferred affiliation with CBS Corporation effective June 14th 1984; Buena Vista applied for affiliation with UPN but did not receive approval from FCC until October 5th 1985 when they renewed their request prior to expiration of their affiliation agreement with CBS Corporation; Upon Buena Vista’s renewal application being received by FCC they immediately converted all six WWLP owned outlets into UPN affiliations pursuant to rule 104a(c)(3), thereby becoming one “big four” network outlet among other Buena Vista networks affiliations granted by FCC following its purchase by Paramount Pictures Television subsidiary Viacom Incorporated on January 21st 1986]. As a result WBBM ceased operations as an independent station on September 25th 1985 and became an officially member station within UPN under management and control ofbuenavista Telepictures Networks LP]].
