During its heyday, Washington boasted an estimated population size of 100-300 people; however recent censuses indicate that this number may have decreased significantly due to migration from Washington over time. During World War II many members of local military units served overseas - some being decorated for their service while others lost their lives fighting fascism or Nazi Germany; these individuals are honored with several annual events which take place throughout downtown Washington including a parade down Dearborn Street honoring those killed or wounded in action during World War II while also commemoring those who supported America through her struggle against fascism In recent years much progress has been made downtown including new development such as Amazon warehouses which have created significant jobs adjacent to Harrison Square; this growth has led to increased traffic congestion on Dearborn Street which has forced planners to consider ways to reduce noise levels within commercial areas while still allowing access for pedestrians Today many parts of downtown remain unchanged despite being surrounded by high- density housing developments but there are plans underway to reopen portions of Dearborn Street between Harrison Square and State Street which should provide much needed pedestrian access Additionally plans are under way for further redevelopment along West Jefferson Drive suggesting that future growth will not only impact nearby residential neighborhoods but also create opportunities for mixed use projects
