In Washington County we also have a long history with target practice dating back to 1872 when two farmers named Hickey started shooting rabbits at their farmstead off County Road C-8 near present day Ridgeway Heights. From here they gradually grew into practicing hunters who would travel out to shoot sheep, hogs and other game during periods when sport Shooting was not allowed on public lands (the early days were before hunting licenses). These early settlers must have enjoyed using their shotguns against small game since they had no trouble hitting any big animals moving around their property!
