Warrenville is a city in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLean County. The city was founded in 1853 and named for General James Warren. The first settler in what is now Warrenville was John Coston who arrived in 1853. He built a cabin on the site of present day City Hall Square. A post office called "Coston" was established in 1857 and later renamed "Warren". In 1870, the town platting process began with the creation of four block square blocks known as "The Quadrangle." After some years he sold his land to Wm Sutherlin and others who organized the First Methodist Church in what is now Warrenville on November 6, 1854. The cornerstone for that church was laid by Mayor Purdy on December 4th, 1854. In 1865, when Union forces burned Cairo, Illinois during their ill-fated march through that state to Confederate territory (the event known as Shiloh), they destroyed much of downtown Chicago including many churches and other important structures such as court houses which were then rebuilt within a few months using local labor under an effort called Prairie Reconstruction which aimed to modernize and improve life for white America's former slaves following their emancipation date February 14th 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln

Warrenville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,495 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Warrenville was founded in 1836 by Capt. Elijah Prentice and his family as a place to store goods for shipment to Galena, Illinois. In 1840, Rev. John Fenton moved to Warrenville from Westchester County, New York and started a Presbyterian church there. When Galena became too prosperous for Captain Prentice's storage facility, he decided to move his business again but this time on a larger scale and so founded the first black-owned grocery store in Illinois in 1845. In 1848–49, Captain Prentice donated land to build the first school in Warrenville which was dedicated on February 10th of that year by Govs.. James Kinsman and Jesse Lincoln (the future president of US). The original buildings were destroyed by fire in 1861 but Reverend Fenton rebuilt them with slave labor and they remain standing today as one of Warrenville's most significant landmarks. After the Civil War ended Reconstruction in America, many African Americans migrated southward looking for work opportunities and so began the Great Migration of the 1920s which brought many new families into town. The population growth caused many businesses to close down or move out; however, The First National Bank remains an important icon of downtown Warrenville until this day due to its role in promoting economic development throughout the community over more than seventy years In 1962, Mayor Richard Jankowski proposed having village status be granted to Warrenvillle which would have allowed it greater autonomy including voting rights and more power within municipal boundaries However this proposal never received any support from either members of village council or residents who felt that their abilities were already limited without additional powers In 1990s when Community Watch Tower Removal Order was issued ordering all watch towers within 5 miles of Village had been knocked down by order from then Mayor Dick Boylan following complaints about illegal activity taking place at these sites some residents refused to remove their towers despite being ordered do so while others relocated them voluntarily under protest This led to several confrontations between police officers and protesters during which two people were killed
Warrenville was founded in 1833 by a group of farmers who were looking for a new location to settle. The town was named after General John Warren, an American general who fought in the War of 1812. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1847, the United States Congress passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act which allowed for slavery to be practiced in Missouri but not in Illinois. This caused a great deal of controversy within the townsfolk and caused Warrenville to grow even more quickly. In 1850, Warrenville became the capital of Illinois.
