The first settlement in Warrenville was made in 1833 by Captain John Rodgers and his family from North Carolina. They named their town after General James K. Polk who had been president at that time. In 1874, a post office was established at Warrenville and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1904, Mrs. A P Headrick started a school for girls which remains to this day one of the most important educational institutions located in Warrenville. Mrs Headrick also ran an grocery store on Main Street until her death in 1978 which left the town with only one grocery store remaining today closed down many years ago but has been preserved as part of village history still functioning today including its original building with all its original equipment and artifacts! When it opened it was only open for 3 months out of every year due to popular demand so being able to experience what life must have been like back then will be something pretty special!
