Warrenville is one of the oldest towns in Illinois, and has been home to residents for over four hundred years. The town was founded in 1795 by John Warren, aamerican Revolutionary War veteran. In 1834, the town was renamed after General James H. Carver, who served as the first Territorial Governor of Illinois. The John Fitch Manufacturing Company was founded in Warrenville in 1868 by John Fitch and his son Julius. The company became one of the leading manufacturers of holsters and pistols in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Fitch Manufacturing Company retired from business in 1957 but continues to produce firearms today under the name “John Fitch” Firearms Incorporated. In 1924, Warrenville became one of six cities incorporated into Joliet Township (later Cook County). Joliet Township was established to offer more convenience and services to its citizens during this time period when Chicago had yet to become a major city. Today, Joliet Township offers a variety of services such as housing, education, shopping, transportation, health care, and employment opportunities within its boundaries. In 1934, Mayor Harry Senter announced that he would be running for reelection on an anti-corruption platform. His opponent was former State Senator George Matson Jr., who ran on a campaign promise to invest $1 million into improve public transportation throughout Joliet Township. Senter won handily with sixty percent of the vote – becoming mayor for life! Since then,Mayor Senter has made significant investments into our township including: expanding bus service; creating new parks; improving infrastructure; adding streetlights; making community improvements such as better drainage systems; and developing new property across from City Hall which will eventually house additional government offices and residences

Warrenville is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Carbondale–Edwardsburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General George Washington Warren and his wife Martha Custis Richmond. The original settlers were farmers who came from Putnam County, New York. They built their first cabin in 1823 and soon began to raise cattle and sheep. In 1829 they organized the Village of Warrenville and founded a schoolhouse. In 1831 they voted to name their town after General Warren in honor of his military service during the Mexican-American War. In 1865 the Union general William Troup arrived in Warrenville with orders to suppress an insurrection among farm workers near Carbondale. He found no resistance and ordered all residents to leave their homes within 24 hours or be killed. The townspeople refused but decided to rebuild on their land instead of leaving until after Troup had left. Afterward, Warrenville slowly declined until it peaked as an agricultural community in the mid-1960s. Today, Warrenville is home to a few buildings from its past but little else remains of its once vibrant economy.
