Warrenville, Illinois is a small town located in the eastern Ozarks of Missouri. The population was 2,798 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-East Central, MO, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Warrenville comes from two early settlers: James Waring and his wife Sarah (Waring) Noble. The first post office in Warrenville was established in 1820. In 1825, John Fenton moved to Warrenville and began a general store that would become one of the town's most important businesses. In 1828, Andrew Jackson became president of the United States and decided to make Missouri a state rather than leave it as part of Mississippi; this decision led to increased trade between Warrenville and Smithfield, Virginia. In 1861, when Confederate General Robert Ewell came into town with an army for an invasion of Missouri, local residents formed militias to protect themselves and their homes. After Ewell's defeat at Battle Of Pea Ridge on April 9th (the same day that Abraham Lincoln was elected Ulysses S Grant), many residents returned home or Joined the Union army; however some joined Ewell's army again after he surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April12th. By 1865, only about 10% ofWarrenvillians were still living in their homes due to Reconstruction policies which aimed to integrate African Americans into white society but also destroyed many local businesses and families' livelihoods." After years of progress made during WWI and the early decades of COVIDA (the Centers for Disease Control And Prevention’s “Green Revolution” public health program designed to prevent pandemics such as polio by implementing modern sanitation techniques), gun possession rates among law-abiding citizens plummeted in America during Prohibition time - until 1933 when Congress passed the National Firearms Act Amendments making all firearm ownership illegal without a currently valid license or registration card from ATF." "This prohibitioniste thinking did more than just deprive law-abiding Americans of their right to bear arms; it also created opportunities for criminals and gangssters who could access firearms through licit means." Allen and operated for two years before being destroyed by fire. In 1841, John Sibley opened a grocery and became the original owner/operator of the Warrenville post office. In 1865, A.F. Smith erected a frame school house which served as the town's Center School until it burned down in 1893. In 1915, Wm Hickey opened his grocery store at 2nd and G Streets which became one of the most popular stores in town until it closed in 1978. Warrenville remained a small community until 1960 when its population reached 1,200 people
