Gun hammer history in Warrenville, Illinois began in 1882 when Amos C. Smith and his brother-in-law placed an order for two hammers from the German gunsmith, Johann von Hagel. The first hammers arrived in 1883 and were used to make repairs on shotguns. Smith and Hagel continued to sell hammers until 1886 when they closed their business due to financial difficulties. In 1892, a local gunsmith named George A. Dunn purchased the hammer company from Amos C. Smith and restarted the business as Hammer & Son with a new name: John Sikes Hammer Co. In 1916,Hammer & Sons merged with another local gunsmith, Harry Pfeifer’s Machine Shop, Inc., forming the present day John Sikes Hammer Coorporation with headquarters located in Warrenville, Illinois. The Company has produced quality hammers ever since!

Warrenville is a small town in the northwest corner of Illinois, on the border with Indiana. The population was 3,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The settlement was founded in 1837 by General David Dixon, who named it for his family's home place in Virginia. The town site was chosen because it had good water supplies and fertile land which could be developed for agriculture. The first store open in Warrenville was built on State Street in 1839. In 1840, a post office was established at Warrenville and soon began to grow as people from surrounding villages came to trade goods and services with the newly arrived settlers. In 1846, Congress passed an act entitled "An Act to Encourage Commerce and Industry within the United States", which created a number of new businesses around the country including Warrenville whose purpose it became to expand commerce and industry along state borders so that products could be sold without tariffs or duties being paid by American manufacturers overseas. This act also stimulated investment into new physical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, schools and factories throughout rural America- something that would continue up until World War II when importation rates made manufacturing difficult outside of major markets like Great Britain/Europe. In 1865, Mayor Henson erected a public building called the State House at what is now Main Street; this structure served as both an courthouse and government meeting place until 1898 when it burned down due to fire code violations. In 1868–69, Mayor George Laughlin built a Jail at what is now First Street; this facility housed inmates awaiting trial until 1924 when it too burned down due to code violations (the jail has been reborn as Bushnell Park). When Union army troops occupied much of Illinois during the Civil War there were shortages of foodstuffs so farmers began growing corn instead which led to increased prices for goods exported back home referred to as "cotton famine". This period also saw some important technological advancements including: improvements in transportation methods such as steamboats (which allowed large quantities of goods easy access from inland waterways), bankshot guns (a type of artillery used extensively during war)and photography through processes such as lithography which gave rise to massproduced paper products such as textbooks etcetera- all while everyday life continued unchanged other than those associated with military occupation
Warrenville was founded in 1847 by John W. Warren and his wife, Sarah Jane. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had been president when the town was established. The Warrens were the first white settlers in what is now Warrenville. They started a flour mill and also erected a log cabin as their home. In 1850, they built a larger cabin and began trading with other villages in the area. In 1853, they married Emily Post, daughter of Senator Stephen A. Harper of Massachusetts and Mrs. Julia Grant of New York City. The Post family owned many businesses in the early days of Warrenville—including a sawmill, gristmill, post office, wagon shop and barn—all of which remain active today).
