However, after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the population of Warrenville plummeted and it eventually ceased to exist as an incorporated municipality. Today, only a few memories remain of the once vibrant community. One such memory is that of gun grips – individuals who used to buy and sell firearms with their hands. However, because there wasn’t much demand for pistols at the time, manufacturers began producing rifles instead. The early rifle manufacturers in Warrenville included Wm Bigham & Co., John Hennig & Sons and Daniel Webster & Bros.. By 1875, most of the gun-making businesses had closed down due to lack of competition from other industries. However, some people continued manufacturingguns until around 1915 when production stopped completely due to World War I. Today, you can still find remnants of former gun handles in various parts of Illinois including Warrenville – a reminder that even though gun handles may no longer be making rifles or pistols anymore, they still play an important role in our society by helping people connect with their firearms through sale and repair services.

The towns growth led to its incorporation as a village in 1871, and it became an incorporated city in 1903.
Warrenville is a small town in the rural Illinois county of McHenry. The population was 4,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Decatur, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Warrenville was George Hines who arrived on July 2, 1832. He and his family built a log cabin on an east-west road that now forms the eastern edge of Warrenville. The area that would become Warrenville was being surveyed by surveyors for a post office when George's son Nathaniel killed a deer with a bow and arrow from a hillock near their cabin to prove his point that hunting could be done from any location in the area. In 1834, Nathaniel's brother James moved to Warrenville from Greencastle, Indiana with his family and began growing corn and wheat in what is now known as North Central Township. In 1836, Nathanial’s two children John and Susannah (Fenton) Hines married brothers Michael (Mick) Fenton of Cahokia Heights in north central Illinois and started farming there also. They named their farm “Hinesburg” after their father-in-law’s home place on Chicago’s Jackson Park where he had been born in 1792. By 1840 they had five children: three girls – Margaret (born about 1840), Jane (born about 1846), Emma (born about 1850). One daughter died young; one girl married while living at Hinesburg but lost her husband when he went off to fight for American independence during the Civil War; one girl married again while living at Hinesburg but lost her second husband as well when he joined Confederate forces during the war The family moved back to Greencastle in 1851 after James' death but kept some land around their old home until they sold it all off to Eddy & Bros., farmers, ranchers and dealers in agricultural products, led by future U.S. Senator Charles Evans Hughes In 1865 they bought another piece of land west of town which became known as North Central Township again These days there are only scattered remnants of buildings left from those early days such as Nathaniel's log house still standing on South High Street next to which is currently located Memorial High School . In 1870 USGS rangers found evidence that Native Americans were living here long before European settlers came . A year later Indian traders brought firearms overland from Canada so this area may have been subject to raiding by Indian tribes since there wasn't much developed infrastructure then . After looking into it further USGS determined this activity must have taken place over many years because no artifacts or human remains were found until after white settlement began here This indicates either contact between these groups/tribes occurred frequently or someone decided this area was worth exploring more deeply so surveys were conducted here soon thereafter .....the first permanent white resident here may have been Captain George Wirtz who purchased 640 acres northeast of town along present day Veterans Boulevard just south of Route 66 sometime before 1800 From Captain Wirtz we can date development Begins immediately following Carbondale Massacre where Mormon Battalion under Captains David Whitcomb & John Clements fought against large force west side Missouri River

However, this type of grip is no longer common on newer firearms because it is more difficult to hold securely against someone's body when firing from behind or from an awkward position such as kneeling or seated positions.
