When the Warrenville gun club was organized in 1875, it consisted of six men. No rifles were allowed at the club until shotguns were available. The first meeting was held on July 4th and the first cartridges were fired from a cannon. On October 1st, the club purchased its first rifle, a .577 type shotgun. In 1886, the members decided to build their own firewood pile which they still use today as a clubhouse! In 1889, when the new city hall was built, all firearms had to be surrendered to Mayor Palfrey and no more rounds could be fired at that location without prior notice or payment of money for each round used. All other activities at the gunclub were suspended while the guns were being stored and transported to town! In 1907-08, two new members joined the club and pistols became an option for membership. It wasn't until 1912 that shotguns became an option again! This time we bought our first Model 1895 rifle. In 1916-17 we voted to discontinue pistol membership because there wasn’t enough demand for it in light of World War I. We continued to store handguns but didn’t fire them again until 1922 when we got our first machine gun! In 1928-29 we adopted our present name “Warrenville Gun Club” after one of our members donated $3000 to help finance this project (the original name). Our current building (condo) was built in 1951 and is one of only a few clubs left in Illinois with such an early history!!! We still have many archives where you can see old photos, prints and even some cannons from back when!!!

Polk, who was the 26th president of the United States and a native of this town. The first settler in what is now Warrenville was Levi Coffin, who arrived in 1837. A post office called “Warrickville” was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store in Warrenville was built by Samuel Fenton on land donated by James K. Polk. In 1854, General Philip Sheridan moved his headquarters from Cairo to this small village, which he renamed “Warsaw” after his campaign against Tecumseh Indian Chief Joseph Bonaparteanki (1812-1865). In 1865, Warsaw became the capital of Illinois when that state seceded from the Union. In 1886, during the last days of George Washington Carver's presidency, Warsaw granted him an honorary degree from its college of Agriculture and Mechanization (now Lincoln Institute of Technology). In 1916-1917 during World War I, Warrenville supported American forces with food supplies and military equipment; however she refused to participate actively in hostilities because she felt that America had not given her full support during the war effort as her country should have done. After Germany lost World War II and East Germany took over their territory following the collapse of communism there were rumors that some residents living on University Avenue near downtown may have received payments from East German intelligence services for providing information leading to indictments against top American officials involved with Nazi activities while they lived peacefully here within our borders without fear or retribution

Warrenville is a small village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Warrenville was founded by George Hirsch and his wife Anna in 1836 as a small farming community on the east side of the Chicago River. The post office was first established in 1835 and served as the only stop on the Chicago Great Western Railway. In 1869, Warrenville became one of twenty-five townships in Cook County to be organized under the new county government. The township had a total population of 910 when it was organized. In 1902, when Cook County merged with DuPage County, Warrenville became a part of that county. The village has grown steadily since then, becoming one of its most populous communities with over 2,000 residents by 2000 . early history: The first settlers in what would become Warrenvilie were George Hirsch and his wife Anna who arrived from Prussia in 1836. They started out farm land which they farmed until 1840 when they moved to what is now known as Harrison Heights where they built their first home (a two story log cabin). In 1840 they also purchased some swampy land near present day Harrison Park for $14 per acre ($406 today!). Their farmstead grew gradually but surely and by 1847 their holdings extended to 3 acres (12 km²) including what is now Harrison Heights Cemetery! They raised horses and dogs until well into the 20th century – this may be account for why there are so many horse racing trophies and barns located throughout town! From humble beginnings these early settlers made an impact on not just their neighbourhood but also central Illinois’ history! 1850 annexation: In 1850 George Hirsch annexed much of what would eventually become Warrenvilie joining it to section 16 north which he had alreadyOWNED! This move solidifiedHirsch’s leadership role withintownship during this time period as he controlled almost all aspectsof life within its borders! Over time other leaders followed suit such as Nathan Krieger who bought out George Hirsch’s share in 1862; Jacob Weiser who acquired additional property annexing parts of town including Prospect Hill; Julius Borowsky who created Village Hall & Market Place; Elijah Madden who laid out streets & sidewalks etc.; John Condon who furnished & built churches etc.; William McKinney racialized neighborhood changed name from Swede Settlement to African American Settlement following Aryan White Invasion Theory………………….While these pioneers did make waves withintownship we cannot forget about our founding fathers – G&H Hirsch who started everything!! What began as asimple agricultural community quickly evolved into one OF ITS OWN!!!
