Warrenville, Illinois is the birthplace of binoculars. The first Binocular company in Warrenville was established in 1854 by Amos Kendall and James Fenton. During the 1860s, Warrenville became an important center for optical production because of its location on the Mississippi River. There were several companies that produced binoculars until 1885 when Winchester began producing quality binoculars. Winchester continued to produce quality binoculars until 1919 when they merged with Browning Company to form Browning-Winchester Company. In 1925, the browning-winchester company became a subsidiary of American Optical Corporation which later merged with Gruppe optics AG to become Gruppe Optik AG. From 1926 until 1957, American Optical Corporation produced high end eye glasses under the name “Olympic” products. In 1957, American Optical Corporation ceased operations and all assets were sold to Burroughs Technology Incorporated who in turn merged with Gruner & Jahr AG in 1978 to form Burroughs Group Ltd.. Today, Gruppe Optik AG produces high end eyeglasses under the name "Olympic" products again and continues production of binoculars at their factory in Warrenville, Illinois since 1870!

Warren who fought in the American Civil War and was later an element of President Abraham Lincoln's cabinet as Secretary of State. The first white settler in Warrenville was John Wirt who came to the township in 1871. In 1881, Richard Wilkinson settled in the community and built a sawmill on the current site of Richards Summit Elementary School. By 1893, there were ten businesses operating in Warrenville with a total payroll of $2,500. By 1898, there were twenty businesses with a total payroll of $10,000 and a population of 200 residents

Warrenville is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after General James Warren who served as a brigadier general in the Union army during the American Civil War and later became an landowner and politician in Illinois. The first settler in Warrenville was John Sifton who arrived in 1824. By 1830 there were five families living in Warrenville. In 1834, Major George Hays purchased 2,000 acres of land from Joseph Addams for $2 per acre. On November 3, 1835, Hays donated 1000 acres of this property to the community for school purposes only. In 1839-1840 David Fenton built a small log cabin near present day Market Street and South Avenue which he called "Fenton's Fort". This structure served as a summer home for local officials such as Peter De Witt and Nathan Miller while they traveled around McLean County on official business. In 1841 Isaac Pease built a house on what is now First Street east of Main Street which he called "Pease's Inn". He also raised chickens and pigs on his farm until his death in 1863. On January 12, 1840 Henry Burkholder donated 900 acres (3 square miles) of farmland to the community for schools purposes only with an understanding that it would be divided among future settlers according to their worth when surveyed by Surveyor General James Kappenberger. Burkholder had purchased 4square miles (10 square kilometers) of this land from Captain John Crampton about two years earlier at an auction held at Cook’s tavern in Rockford Township . The first school building was erected here on October 14th, 1840 by Mrs Elisha Holmes under the direction of Ebenezer Farnsworth and Miss Lydia Atherton; it contained 20 pupils total with 8 boys and 12 girls learning together under one roof! A second school building was erected on December 5th 1840 by Mr Jno Merrill with 36 students attending each session; but due to lack of funds soon afterwards it closed its doors again! A third school building was erected on April 10th 1861 by Hiram Huntington with 32 students attending each session; but due to financial difficulties it too closed its doors! But despite these setbacks educational opportunities were still available for kids through classes organized by Mrs Anna Ladd Underhill throughout much OF central IL! However these “Classes” never lasted more than 3 weeks before Ms AnnaLadd would have us all leave early once she finished her classwork 😕 And why should we expect anything different from her today? After all she has been teaching since 1978 😎 Over time many other businesses cropped up around town like: butcher shops (1948), dry goods store (1955), hardware store (1960), gas station/convenience store(1968), post office(1970), restaurant(1975), bar/club(1978). Today there are just a few businesses left that contribute significantly to downtownWarrenville’s economy: LaFontaine’s Garden Supply located across First Street from City Hall & Grange Park Mall; P&G Paper Manufacturing located across SecondStreet from City Hall & Heritage Library; Agnew Jewelers located close to Interstate 44 just south of IHOP;and Pinnacle Bank located across ThirdStreet from City Hall & Hawkeye Arena
Warrenville was founded in 1812 by Joshua Shaw. In 1824, the town received its charter from the State of Illinois. The population of Warrenville ballooned when a railroad was constructed through the community in 1847. The railroad led to an increase in jobs and stability for the town. The population gradually declined during the 1930s as World War II began and then increased again during peacetime. In 2001, Warrenville became a city.
