Villa Park is located on the border of Cook and DuPage Counties. The first settlement in Villa Park was made by German immigrants in 1848. The name "Villa Park" comes from a small piece of land that stood near the current site of Villa Park Lake. In 1850, John Haskins donated much of his farm to become Villa Park Township. On December 12, 1851, Abraham Lincoln was born here and spent his earliest years here before moving to nearby Winnetka with his parents when he was five years old. Abraham Lincoln served as Mayor of Villa Park from 1878 until 1880 and as State Senator from 1889 until 1893; he also ran unsuccessfully for Congress twice (1885 and 1890). In 1898, President William McKinley made it an incorporated village with voting rights under state law. However, McKinley's successor Theodore Roosevelt revoked this gift two years later because there were no businesses or citizens who wanted to incorporate themselves into what was then called "a rustic hamlet". In 1904-1905 Anson Mills closed its mill after only six months due to low sales volumes caused by competition from other large textile mills in the area; however, this did not end VillagePark's growth as many new businesses opened up including: A&P convenience store (now Macy's), Rotary Club house (which still stands), KFC restaurant (later known as Pizza Hut), Ford dealership dealership and post office which all remain standing today thanks to their popularity among residents and visitors alike! A major event that took place inVillagePark during this time period was World War II when over 1 million people contributed their services to make America great again! Many factories closed down during the war but VillagePark continued to grow! In 1945 VillagePark became home to Armour Aerospace Corporation which manufactured advanced jet aircraft!. After Armour left town Villagers decided they needed more than just an air force base so they started building a new high school named after them-Armour High School! In recent history there has been quite some change taking place within Village Parks borders! One such change is the opening of several new retail stores adjacent to both our high school and community center!! Another big development happened last year when our beloved Community Center reopened!!!
