The Village Corporation developed many new businesses including four grocery stores and two banks; two professional sports teams (the Wheaton Wildcats men's hockey team and women's tennis team) played their first games at nearby South Field before moving permanently to newly constructed North Field; three restaurants - Chop Suey BBQ & Chinese Takeout, Italian Cafe & Pizza Place, Dutch Bros Hamburgers - opened; several thousand square feet (200 m2) were dedicated to retail space; two new high school campuses were built: one for Edison High School students which opened in 2002 and another for Loyola Academy students which opened in 2006 A new shopping center was also built near South Field called "Lakeside" which served as both a shopping mall with major retailers such as Sears Canada, JCPenneyUSA and Macy's Inc., as well as various GIA-certified restaurants including Nobu Japanese Sushi restaurant Additionally there are numerous churches that have set up shop within the confines of Lakeside Shopping Center - St Joseph Catholic Church (opened 2001), First Baptist Church (opened 2003), Methodist EpiscopalChurch (opened 2004), Evangelical LutheranChurch USA(opened 2005).
