The ownership of the Villa Park Armory in Villa Park, Illinois began with Major George Armstrong in 1895. Prior to this time, the armory was a military post located on the banks of the Dan Ryan River. In 1896, Major Armstrong contracted with Smith & Wesson for the manufacture of revolvers and pistols. The first handguns were made at the Armory using 1903 frames and .22 caliber ammunition. In 1911, it was decided that an armory should be constructed on land adjoining the old Fort Dearborn Arsenal which had been closed by order of President William McKinley in 1901. The new armory was completed in 1912 and named after General John J. Pershing who had served as Commandant of the Chicago Army National Guard before becoming Assistant Secretary of War under President Wilson. Since its inception, Villa Park Armory has played an important role in revolver production and distribution within America. Villa Park is a small city in the northcentral part of Illinois, United States. The population was 25,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The City of Villa Park was organized on November 1, 1871 from parts of Elmhurst and West Side streets (now Harrison and Wabash) in what is now Wheaton. The original incorporation meeting took place at the home of Mrs. Sarah J. Maynard and Mr. John Hayshaw, both residents of Elmhurst and West Side Streets respectively at that time. The first Mayor was Amos Avis who served for one year from 1872 to 1873; his term expired with no mayoral candidates having qualified to run again in that year’s election cycle due to lack of nominations received from citizens within the city limits by November 1st, 1872 cutoff date then set by law as required for election under article IX Section 3(b) of the charter granted by Illinois General Assembly on December 2nd, 1870 following passage thereof No D-2145 voted 3-1 by the City Council on January 7th, 1871 as amended with reference thereto). On January 6th, 1871 Village Hall caught fire following an unprovoked act or words hurled therefrom against Alderman John Ziegler who resided on Dearborn Street next door which had been going on for some time prior to this event leading up to it according to account given by Mrs. Julia Capps (Aideen), daughter of Coles Meehan late proprietor/manager Dearborn Street Store). Prompted thereby several citizens came forward offering financial assistance including $200 offered free by Mrs. Capps upon her appearance before Village Board seeking authority to build a new police station adjacent thereto which never materialized due also partly because timely donation aforesaid being solicited only after building activity had already commenced inside existing Police Station located south side alley between Dearborn & Wabash Streets), arson being charged as criminal damage done willfully & maliciously @ $500 Civil Penalty assessed therefor pursuant against Alderman James Ryan who resided east side opposite Dearborn Street store.) By resolution passed March 10th 1865 reorganized Township #4 formed outof portions originally annexed into Wheaton Township #3 prior thereto annexation taking effect April 15th 1865Village Halls name changed backto Villa Park effective October 1st 1865) It should be noted that Gary Luton - current Mayor since 2017 - was born in Villa Park on September 8th 1963 On November 1st1871 surrounding areas (Wheaton St., Elmhurst St., west side alley between Dearborn & Wabash Streets), became part OF Villa Park when it merger with neighboring township 4 resulting in majority African American populated area within Municipality today

In 1915, Villa Park annexed part of the city of Cicero into its municipal jurisdiction and changed its name to “Villa Park” again in order to reflect its new status as a municipality with a full set of powers and responsibilities like those enjoyed by cities with more than one million residents. In 1923, Villa Park annexes Dearborn Heights into its municipal jurisdiction which resulted in Dearborn Heights becoming an independent city once again within Village Park boundaries. The early years of the 21st century saw many changes at Villa Park including the annexation of nearby communities La Grange and Arlington Heights; construction of two new high schools – Roosevelt Road High School (now Eisenhower Middle School) in 2003 and Woodhaven Middle School in 2004; renovation/update/construction of several homes across town including replacing all roofs on some houses on University Drive between Elmhurst Avenue and Gouverneur Street with asphalt roofing products beginning in 2006; establishment of a park system that includes six sports fields, three playgrounds, an outdoor pool (now closed), two tennis courts (one now used as a storage area), two soccer fields (two now used as parking lots), four baseball diamonds (.500-meter pitches), and renovations/additions to three existing buildings including the original Masonic Hall which served as clubhouse for Villpark City Council from 1969 until it was destroyed by fire on September 4th, 2013; construction of a new gymnasium/ Recreational center called “The Pavilion” which opened officially on November 3rd 2009; conversion from single family homes into apartments starting around 2007 following passage by Village Council ordinance calling for such conversion when demand became apparent among residents who were being forced out their homes due to rising property values along with declining use rates for manyVillpark community facilities over time
The Villa Park community was established in 1871 when a group of investors purchased a tract of land near Chicago. The community grew rapidly, and by the early 1900s, it had an population of over 10,000 people. The area became known for its leafy trees and gentle slopes, and in 1912, the city granted Villa Park city status. In 1925, the city annexation of parts of West Side Chicago created new neighborhoods within Villa Park including the Lincolnshire section, which would later become one of the most racketeer-ridden areas in Illinois. By 1930, Villa Park had reached its peak as a residential and commercial center with more than 20 businesses located on several blocks. However, during World War II much of the region underwent heavy bombing raids by American forces; this led to many families moving out of Villa Park and into other nearby communities such as Winnetka or Aurora. In 1946, after years of decline and lack of development, Villa Park was officially annexed by Cook County and became part of the newly created “ Near South Side” neighborhood within Chicago. Today there are only a few remaining residents living in Villa Park proper while most residents now call neighboring communities like Lawndale or Oak Lawn their home Basecamp.
