This never came to be; however, Haddon's son Harry Waddell did build a small tramway called "Haddon Line" which connected his father's streetcar company with his uncle William Waddell's grocery store on South Shore Drive nearpresent day Northwestern Ave.. The line ran for only three years before being dismantled due to financial difficulties caused by World War I (the war stopped America's railroads). After the war ended there continued were plans for a streetcar system but they never materialized either because money wasn't available or because people didn't want to use cars instead of buses or streetcars. In 1925 Edward Selvin put forward a plan for extending an express way from Lake Forest eastward from Eisenhower Avenue into Vernon Hills carrying traffic from Cicero Junction (now Forrest Road) just south of present day Irving Park Road into Vernon Hills proper near where Central Avenue meets Devon Avenue today; this project never got past the planning stages but Selvin died before he could implement it himself In 1935 Harry Waddell started construction on what would become today's University Of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign campus across from present day McCormick College of Engineering and Applied Science The first section opened up in 1954 with 3 streets: North Woodruff Street/Oak Park Boulevard/South Woodruff Street while downtown Chicagoland served as its central business district . extensions have been made throughout Chicagoland over ensuing decades With more than 150 acres now covered by development including housing developments universities research centers and other professional buildings

This increase in population led to an increase in development around this area; Archer Heights soon developed into one of Chicago's most affluent neighborhoods due to its location within walking distance (and sometimes less than mile) of many well-known businesses and institutions including McCormick Place and Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine*.
