Vernon Hills is an affluent suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Vernon Hills has a population of over 110,000 people and covers an area of 22 square miles. The community was founded in 1922 by John Wesley Vernon and his wife Anna. It was named after the Vernon family's farmstead in Dearborn Township, Michigan. Vernon Hills is home to Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and its associated hospitals, as well as several thousand other businesses and homes. The community also features a golf course, tennis courts, lakeside parks, and a number of shopping malls. The Vernon Hills housing market is strong with many current residents still living on their original farms or estates from when the community was founded. Many new houses were built after the recession while others have been renovated or replaced over time. There are currently 2 primary schools in the area - one for kindergarten through eighth grade (K-8) and one for ninth through twelfth grade (9-12). A new elementary school is being built that will serve students from Pre-Kindergarten through twelveth grade starting in 2021/2022. In addition to this new school there are plans to build a middle/high school which should be completed by 2023/2024

Vernon Hills, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Vernon Hills was founded in 1853 by William Vernon and his brother Ebenezer. The first post office was established in 1854. In 1870, Vernon Hills became the county seat of Cook County. The population of Vernon Hills peaked at over 33,000 in 1920 and declined to 21,000 by 1930. However, the population has since experienced an increase due to suburban development in nearby suburbs such as Arlington Heights and Wheaton. Today, Vernon Hills has a population of about 15,000 residents and is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in Illinois. The town was named after General James Wilkinson (1778-1835), who fought during the Mexican War on the side of Mexico against Great Britain. General Wilkinson had served as Governor of Missouri before he joined the army under General Zachary Taylor at the Battle of Buena Vista on October 16th 1847. After victory over Mexican forces at that battle, Wilkinson was given command of all American troops north of Mexico City known as "the Angelic Brigade." As commander of this brigade, General Wilkinson inflicted great losses upon Mexican forces during what is now called "the Treason Campaign" which took place from November 3rd through December 6th 1847. On November 17th 1847 General Wilkinson's brigade assaulted and captured Chapultepec Hill which led to his acclaimed reputation as "The Hero Of Chapultepec." The townspeople were so impressed with him that they renamed their street after him - Santa Clara Street being its original name). In 1865 Vernon Hills annexed part of Wheaton which made it one municipality with a total population near 50,000 people (this number would grow to more than 100,000 by 1930). With this annexation came many new businesses including a Sears Roebuck store opened in 1865 just east of present day Arlington Heights; also open then were two Ford cars dealership located on Chicago Avenue just south of Route 54/Lake Michigan Boulevard; these locations are still existing today within the bordersof Arlington Heights. These early years saw rapid growth for Vernon Hills thanks to its location close to major highways and shopping malls across northern Cook County – all while maintaining its traditional values such as community service and piety towards God. During World War II much activity took place within and around Vernon Hills due to its strategic location midway between Chicago and Milwaukee along I-94/I-8W making it easily accessible both for military transports arriving via highway or air freight shipments departing from Midwestern airports like Milwaukee or Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport; both pieces played an important role in helping keep America safe during wartime (see I-94 Corridor for more information). In 1948 Vernon Hills became home to chemical plants operated by Du Pont Company shipyards producing plutonium for nuclear weapons testing conducted beneath Lake Michigan shorelines across northern Wisconsin until those plants closed down in 1976 following revelations about plutonium use at Oak Ridge National Laboratory beginning back in 1944 when Manhattan Project scientists discovered high levels thereof secreted among severalDuPont Corporation shipyards sites throughout southern Indiana) In 1990 Vernon hills incorporated into Wheaton Township but retains strong cultural ties with its surrounding municipalities especially Arlington Heights where many members have lived since 1922 when Wheaton incorporation occurred; although larger portions have moved away over time some elements remain very active within their communities including: local golf courses operated by Ladd & Co., professional hockey team Whitehawk Hockey Club formed 1984 outgrowth from local junior ice teams coached by brothers Ricketts & Bill Haggerty; recent additions Mariotti’s Italian Bistro serving Chinese takeout lunches daily since 1978 catering mostly towards students attending Northwestern University Kane University etc.; recently renovated Holy Cross Seminary providing religious education opportunities for area high school students etc.–increasingly becoming world famous for student services offered there beyond merely worshiping God Almighty inside one building

The population of Vernon Hills grew rapidly during the early years, and by 1920 there were over 1,000 residents. However, the growth of the city eventually slowed in the 1930s as a result of World War II. In 1945, Vernon Hills became an incorporated municipality with a population of just under 1,500 people. During the late 20th century, many businesses closed or moved away from Vernon Hills due to its high crime rates and lack of opportunities for entrepreneurship. However, there have been occasional efforts to revive the community since then.
