Vernon Hills, Ill. is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 57,521 at the 2010 census. Vernon Hills is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Illinois. It lies on a small but fertile plain between Lake Michigan and the Fox River. The first people to live in what is now Vernon Hills were the Potawatomi Indians who lived there for many years before moving eastward into Indiana Territory in 1812. In 1814, President James K. Polk assigned 160 acres (66 hectares) of land to John C. Fremont as part of his Treaty of Fort Wayne which ended the War of 1812 between America and Great Britain. The Fremont family constructed a house on this tract of land known as Fremont's Farmstead from 1816 to 1830 when it was sold to General Nathan Bedford Forrest for $4,000 cash plus 5% interest on each dollar paid up until sold - making it one of the largest Indian conveyed deeds ever recorded in Illinois history! Fremont built his home on a bluff overlooking Oak Lawn Lake which he named Elmwood after himself and his daughter Elmira (now Elmhurst). From here he took great pride in monitoring American military activity nears or across town including watching over soldiers during their encampments while they ate their noon meal at Grosse Pointe Park or enjoyed an evening beverage at Vincennes Castle before returning home for dinner that night. He also enjoyed playing polo with other members of society at Arlington House on Clark Street across from Soldier Field today's Joe Louis Arena! In 1830 general David Dixon took control of Illinois from General Forrest and purchased 1/3interest in Fremont's farmstead for $2,500 cash plus 2% interest per month until sold to Adolphus Greeley who had been elected governor three years earlier! Greeley renamed it Glencoe after himself while still living at Elmwood – becoming only the second person ever to hold two offices simultaneously in Illinois! Glencoe became one of Chicago's earliest suburbs when it was annexed by Vernon Hills as part of its official incorporation date on April 12th 1909! At that time there were only 4,500 residents living within City limits with no water or sewer system yet – so annexing Glencoe meant having everything hooked up by then !! Although we may not have seen much progress since then due to our current economic struggles such as high school tuition rates etc., I believe that if we are willing to take some risks we can achieve anything!!

It was founded in 1881 by Isaac Newton Vernon and was incorporated as a city on March 12, 1902. The name Vernon comes from an early settler, Isaac Newton Vernon, who named his farm "Hillsborough." The first post office in Vernon Hills opened in 1879 and closed in 1889. The first store opened in 1901 and closed in 1907. In 1902, the city changed its name to honor General John Pershing because he had donated land for what would become downtown Chicago. The first mayor of Vernon Hills was Addison Crouch Jr.. In 1957, Vernon Hills became one of the original cities within theCook County Regional Center Authority which led to many new economic opportunities for residents there. When that authority merged with other local authorities into the newly created Cook County government on April 1, 1997 it became known as "Cook County Regional Services Authority". On December 15th of that year, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that Vernon Hills would be receiving $25 million from CPS to help redevelop their center which included plans for more than 100 jobsites plus 10 acres (40 hectares) of parkland
