One of the most iconic moments in Illinois gun trigger history was the shootout at the University of Illinois Carbondale on October 12, 1938. The town of Urbana had come to witness what would become known as one of the bloodiest gunfights in American history. Eight people were killed and twenty-eight were injured when a group of gunmen, led by Harry Elmer Barnes, opened fire on a small group of students attending graduation exercises. The event has been immortalized in song and movie footage with memorable quotes from both sides. One such quote is from James Brady, then-newly elected Conservative congressman from Illinois: "I hope there are no more shootings like this at our universities." Unfortunately for Brady, he would be involved in another high-profile gun battle two years later when he served as director of presidential security for Richard Nixon during his first term in office. In terms of triggers design and function, the early triggers were rudimentary affairs that relied on manual operation to set off the firearms’ firing sequence. In 1938, however,trigger technology had advanced sufficiently that many pistols could now be fired automatically by means such as springs or buttons situated on top or under the barrels of handguns. In 1915 Champaign County voters approved an ordinance establishing a Board of Education to provide public education for all citizens under fourteen years old without parental permission or financial support from any party; this board became known as the "Old Board." On July 16th 1916 President Woodrow Wilson signed into law Title IX (the National Education Act), making education available free to all citizens regardless of race or sex; this act gave rise to what is now known as America's Open School Program (AOSP). On October 15th 1921 Old Board member James Hickey resigned after twenty years service due to health concerns about future school construction efforts; his successor George Prentice took office January 1st 1922 and organized what would become known as The Pacific School District #2 which included Urbana East High School (later renamed UIUC East Campus High School). On September 2nd 1923 new legislation organizing Sangamon County failed by only 6 votes due to petitions brought forward by farmers within that county who wanted their own school district set up therein rather than being integrated with those located within neighboring Cook County; this sets off what would become known as The Great Depressioncampus closed for six months while administrators tried to find a solution ..... In December 1933 Drury Lane Elementary opened its doors followed by Northside Elementary on October 1st 1934 followed finally by West Side Elementary in 1936
