Tinley Park is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. Tinley Park was founded in 1847 by John Tinley and his wife Hannah. It became part of the Chicago metropolitan area in 1889. Tinley Park is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in Illinois and has a rich history that can be seen on its buildings and residents. The first permanent settler in what is now Tinley Park was John Tinley who arrived there with his family from England in 1847. They built the tin mines which yielded much profit for the Tinleys and their investors. In 1865, they donated land to build a public school system which still operates today as Tinley Park Township High School District #1A. The millinery business started up around this time and many early women entrepreneurs were brought to town from rural areas to set up shop here. By 1881, over 50 businesses had been established along Wabash Street alone! In 1886, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States and soon after moved into Springfield where he continued his political career until he resigned due to ill health in 1893. In 1898-1899, he lived at 10 E State St., one block west of present day Lake Shore Drive (then Cicero Avenue), where he delivered speeches on behalf of prohibitionist candidates during the campaign season before returning home to live with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln on Woodstock Road east of Old World Trade Center outside Chicago – this location is now known as Ford’s Theaterhistoric Site). Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace continues to hold significance as it remains one of only two original structures remaining from his presidency (the other being Drury Lane Plantation near Springfield). After leaving office, Mr Lincoln traveled throughout America giving speeches on various issues while living at various locations including Voorhees(now Arlington Heights) north of Chicago until 1902 when he returned home permanently to Mount Vernon Place east of New York City; Mrs Lincoln continued living there until her death 14 years later (she likely died at age 95 years old since she never visited her husband’s presidential tomb)). John Fenton opened a grocery store next door to Michigan Avenue & Wabash Street between 1895-1901 - this store would eventually become KFC Luverne Avenue Supermarket chain located today across from KFC Indiana Drive exit off I-465 just south off US 12/2 . A total of 12 businesses were opened along Wabash Street during John Fenton's reign including 5 groceries stores plus 2 dry goods stores - all operated by Fenton himself! On November 15th 1907 Clarence Darrow appeared before a U.S district court judge named Harry Smith about an antitrust charge against J&J Coffee Company - these hearings are considered some key moments leading up to American entry into World War I as Darrow won major promises from President Woodrow Wilson if successful in proving antitrust violations within J&J Coffee Company's operations! One important event that occurred during Mr Fenton's tenure was when Mayor Edward Messel came out against annexation by Cook County because he felt it would lead too much growth down South towards Highland Park - another significant development happening right around this time! Although few residents remember it nowadays (due largely to marketing efforts by modern day descendants thereof), back then Messel's stand represented an historic shift for Tinley Park locals who wanted more control over their community affairs! Many famous people have also passed through or resided near tinkeypark during its history including Art Garfunkel, Chuck Berry, Jay Leno and Barack Obama Sr!.
On October 15, 1847, Tinley Park was founded by wealthy white men in the then-new township of Tinley. The town name is derived from the Jeremiah Allison farmstead that stood on what is now Main Street. Tinley Park became a thriving community and agricultural center during the mid-19th century. It was known for its fine produce, meats and eggs, and dairy products. In 1907, Tinley Park merged with neighboring village of Grandview to form the new city of Tinley Park. The merger increased population size by 100%. During World War II, Tinley Park was an important manufacturing center for Allied forces in Illinois. In 1945, it became home to one of the first large African American families in Cook County when Julius Black married Ida Jane White at Trinity Lutheran Church.
