Abraham Lincoln had been born near Tinley Park in 1809 and grew up on a farm thereabouts before moving westward in 1847 to join his father Jones Sr.'s cattle business at Belvidere (now Midlothian) in Kane County. He married Mary Todd when he was twenty-one years old; she was eighteen years old when they met and six months pregnant when they married. They lived together during most of their marriage until her death three years later at age 41 from disease contracted while living close by at an infirmary run by Drury Lane Asylum keeper Drury Lane). Lincoln stayed two years after being inaugurated as President before returning home to take office as Vice President under John Cushing on April 14th 1865 due to General Ulysses S Grant's victory over Confederate General Robert E Lee at Appomattox Court House four days earlier that year (March 9th 1865). On November 6th 1865, Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth inside Ford’s Theatre (now First National Center) in downtown Washington D C; Booth had earlier attempted suicide outside the theater prior to carrying out his attack against President Lincoln
