It is with great regret that we must report the passing of our Rifle Scope historian, Mr. Don K. Gregg, on Wednesday, February 6th at the ripe age of 85 years. He was a true enthusiast in the field of rifle scopes and contributed greatly to Tinley Park's rifle history lore. A graduate of Northern Illinois University where he studied engineering, Mr. Gregg worked as an engineer for 34 years before retiring in 2003. As a RifleScope collector and restorer since 1978, Mr. Gregg was intimately acquainted with many of Tinley Park's old rifle scopes dating back to the 1800s and more! His library contains over 100 riflescope models including some from the early 1900s which are now lost or rarer still! In his spare time he enjoyed reading books on firearms and hunting History as well as playing golf and watching football (he was a avid Bears fan). Survivors include his wife Betty (59) whom he married in 1960; two children (one resides in Louisiana; one lives in Illinois); five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; one niece/ nephew/ cousin (all living within 5 miles of Tinley Park). Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 12th at First Baptist Church located at 364 N Elm Street in Tinley Park with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery outside Chicago. In addition to all those who loved him deeply during his lifetime there will be contributions made to The Don K. Gregg Scholarship Fund which supports students studying engineering or technology at NIU having graduated from high school within the last ten years! We extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Gregg and their entire family during this difficult time

Tinley who donated land to be developed into a town and founded Tinley Park Township in 1892. The township was renamed Tinley Park Village after Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Tinley made an offer for its current name which they accepted on November 20th, 1962

Tinley Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,507 at the 2010 census. Tinley Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town has been inhabited by humans since pre-historic times and was once part of the Ottawa Indian Nation. Tinley Park was originally called "Porteaux" after its original French owners. The first European to visit Tinley Park was Captain George Washington on his way from Cairo, Egypt to Boston in 1795. He stopped at the trading post of Porteaux on his trip and ordered supplies for his army before continuing on his journey to New York City. The first settler in Tinley Park was Nicholas Flournoy who arrived in 1828 with his family from Watertown, Massachusetts. John Doherty also moved to Tinley Park in 1829 and opened a tavern known as the Gopher Inn which stood until 1906 when it burned down. In 1838, tin merchants James Caldwell and Nathaniel Butler founded the village of Caldwellsville near present day Elmwood Heights with land they had bought from Nathanial Butler's father-in-law Daniel Boone for $8 per acre (1/4 mile²). In 1840, about forty families settled in what is now tinLEY PARK when Amos Kendall donated 1/2 acre (0.18 miles²) of land east of current downtown for a new cemetery; this site would eventually become home to both First Church of Christ: Latter Day Saints and Resurrection Parish Cemetery today! 1st Presbyterian Church located just south east corner of Elm & Wabash Avenues built c1860’s
Tinley Park was founded in 1847 by John Tinley and his wife, Sarah. The Tinleys were the first white settlers in the area. They built a cabin on the banks of the Fox River and named it Tinley Park. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s, thanks to its new transportation options and good agricultural land. By 1870, Tinley Park had a population of 2,000 people. In 1872, tinkerers discovered potash in nearby Crystal City and began to mine it for fertilizer. This led to development of what is now Crystal City Township. In 1876, Illinois became a state, and Tinley Park became one of its initial municipalities. It remained an important community until 1974 when it merged with other towns in Cook County to form Chicagoland.
