Tinley Park has remained largely unchanged from its early days as a small town, with few changes to the community's demographics since 1800. The first known inhabitants of Tinley Park were Native Americans who hunted and fished along the Fox River. In 1812, John Kinzie founded what would become Tinley Park on land current within the city limits of Chicago. At that time, only a few scattered buildings and some outlying farms lay within present-day Tinley Park; most of today's neighborhood was developed between 1871 and 1893 when Chicago annexed much of Kane County. In 1871, John Kinzie donated land to build a school for his children in what would become modern day Tinley Park.initially called "Kinner's School", it became "Tinley Elementary School" in 1895 after request from Mayor Julius Caesar Todd Sr.. The first high school in Cook County was opened in 1899 by Judge Wm Higginson with help from Mr. Kinner and other local investors; it became "Cook County High School" in 1907 when Cook County was divided into two districts (northwest and southwest). In 1903, tin rails were discovered near where present-day Michigan Avenue meets Lake Shore Drive - this led to construction of one of Chicagos earliest streetcar lines which ran through Tinley Park starting on May 1st 1904 running northbound on State Street then eastbound on Michigan Ave before terminating at North Side Market – giving residents easy access to downtownChicago without having to leave their homes! This early streetcar line remains one of Chicagos most popular tourist attractions today! In 1906, architect George Pullman designed an elaborate mansard roofed building which served as home plate for the new Cubs baseball team located at Wrigleys Field – this building still stands today as part of Progressive Field complex! This well-designed building also served as headquarters for several departments including Our Great American Tobacco Company which operated until 1957 when they relocated to Union Station – making TinLEY PARK THE FIRST LOCAL PLACE IN CHICAGO TO SEE A PUBLIC BUILDING OPENED BY OUR GREAT AMERICAN TABACCO COMPANY!!! In 1916 during World War I., many homes built near Soldier Field or Navy Pier experienced firebombing raids by German bombers resulting in extensive damage – all but destroyed these homes remain standing today testimony to just how destructive warfare can be!! After WWI ended &abandt 1919 began Prohibition era here again various businesses closed however ONE BUSINESS THAT CONTINUED TO OPERATE WAS PEPPERMINT COFFEE SHOP…..which resides now inside OF REINCARNATED STREET FESTIVAL AND MARKETPLACE IN TINLEY PARK
In 1839, Tinley Park was founded by Daniel Tinley and his wife Deborah. The town became a center for agriculture in the area and its population grew rapidly. By 1869, the town had over 1,000 residents and had built a number of businesses including a cotton gin, post office, courthouse, schoolhouse and Masonic order building. In 1916, Tinley Park was annexed by the City of Chicago.
