Tinley Park is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Tinley Park was established in 1871 as a small farming community on the east side of Chicago. It rose to become one of the most important commercial and industrial centres in early twentieth century Illinois. In 1916, Tinley Park became home to the world's first air-rifle range and later hosted other major gun events including the 1945 NRA Congress and World War II military ammunition production plants. Tinley Park has since declined as a commercial center but retains its significant cultural significance.

On February 22, 1905, it merged with neighboring Muncie to form what would become known as the Chicago Metropolitan Area. In 1955, Tinley Park became a city after being chosen as one of five finalists for that designation by Mayor Richard J. Daley
