Taylorville is a town in Cass County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. Taylorville is part of the Carbondale-West Dundee, IL-MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler to come to this area was Isaac Taylor in 1814. He and his family started a farm on what is now Main Street near present day Park Avenue. In 1834, John Purdy bought the farm from Isaac Taylor and moved his family to what is now east side of Main Street between First and Second Streets. In 1836, George Stephenson purchased the land from John Purdy and built a mill on what would later become east side of Main Street between First and Second Streets. This mill became one of the most important businesses in town because it produced flour for local markets as well as exporting agricultural products to other states such as Missouri and Michigan. In 1860, Augustus Chapman bought property along present day east side ofMain Street between First and Second Streets which he used for pasture land until 1865 when he developed it into an agriculture township with a post office called "Taylorville". The first store in town was built in 1865 by William Ransom (the father of future Congressman William Ransom). Today there are several stores that dot the community including Barnes & Noble bookstore, Meijer convenience store/grocery store, Pizza Hut restaurant and KFC restaurant. On July 4th 1915 students from nearby Normal School staged a sit-in at Normal High School protesting against tuition hikes that were proposed by then Superintendent Drury Noebeck. After school administrators arrived to disperse the students they barricaded themselves insideNormal High School until police arrived who eventually resulted in no arrests or damage done to either school building but did ordernormal high school students out of town after dark

Taylorville, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. The community is named after George Washington Taylor. It was founded in 1836 by General James K. Polk and his family as a small farming village on the east bank of the River AIdden in what is now McLean County. In 1850s and 1860s it was a major center for cotton production in central Illinois. After the American Civil War, many black people moved to Taylorville from surrounding rural areas to work on local plantations; this led to social unrest which climaxed in an1871 riot when white men killed three black men working on a nearby plantation. The townsite of Taylorville was platted by General James K. Polk and Drury Latham under patents dated December 10, 1836 and February 26, 1838 respectively. The town site lay within present-day McLean County at what is now its eastern border; its original boundaries were about one mile wide and five miles long extending southeastward from the AIdden river's confluence with the Mississippi River to just beyond some low hills that overlook Dundee creek nearpresent-day Moberly; this area would later become part of Vandalia Township (now Park Heights). At first there were only two houses: those of Jno., Wm., Geo., Mrs.(?) & 5 others erected early 1840’s & used as farmhouses until they burned down September 12th 1846 while all occupants save 3 children were inside when building caught on fire! vernacular terms suggestive of Indian habitation such as Pigeon Hole or Gully led early settlers to believe that these dwellings may have been occupied by Sioux or Winnebago Indians during their previous visits hereabouts & subsequent references to these termsof settlement reflect this belief—a mental image still retained today among some residents thereof! There appears no record of any formal platting ceremony taking place although it has been assumed that General Polk did so because he had significant interests hereabouts including land grants from Congress which later became known as “Taylorville Plantations”! At first there were only two houses: those of Jno., Wm., Geo., Mrs.(?), & 5 others erected early 1840’s & used as farmhouses until they burned down September 12th 1846 while all occupants except 3 children were inside when building caught on fire! It should be noted that over time much property was added to define present day townsite—most notably farmland west of Dundee Creek between Moberly and Park Heights becoming part of Vandalia Township while other portions comprising today’sMcLean County became sections of Aurora Township (later West Aurora) before finally joining Rockford Township proper following statehood in 1865! In 1830–31 surveyors surveyed township blocks Nos.: 25-27 (later covered by modern day Park Heights), but no buildings appear among them which suggests that platting may not have taken place then either!! As mentioned earlier there are several references throughout our history books both contemporaneous with events happening here& subsequently written about us – eGg: “In 1840 John Sibley purchased Lots No: 24-26 in Townsite according to plat dated Dec 10th 1830 from Capt[e]nal Knox…. Property lines continue northeast along AIdden River until attained by fields lying east side…Before purchasin g lots John Sibley built house No 6 above represented herein said lot fronting Rte 9…. This house stands today still standing located where lot 24 formerly stood…..After purchase Mr Sibley moved his family into said house Nov 17th 1840″ pg 788 et al.) indicating earliest settler activity occurred prior to Woodstock Road being laid out approximately c1840

The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Mississippi River, and by 1865 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1871, the town became an incorporated village, and by 1893 it had a population of 2,000 people. In 1945, Taylorville was merged into the city of Chicago.
