Taylorville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1867 by John Fenton and James Grafton as a sawmill town on the shore of Lake Michigan. A post office called Taylorville was opened in 1870, and remained in operation until it closed in 1916. In 1876, the first electric streetlights were installed in Taylorville; they remain operational today. In 1902, brick buildings were built around the original millrace where the current town square now stands. These buildings are still used today as local government offices and other businesses. The millrace has also been home to various golf courses throughout its history. In 1906, school District No 5 of Cook County constructed a new high school near present-day Taylorville; this structure served as the nucleus for many of future Taylorvillians' schools (e.g., South High School). For many years after that date, all grades within District Nos 5 operated out of one or more local schools: elementary through junior high school students attended either Stroud Elementary School or Griggs Junior High School while high schoolers took classes at Northwestern Illinois State Normal School (now DuPage Community College), then Iroquois College before graduating to serve their districts freshman year without taking exams.; however district boundaries have gradually expanded to encompass nearby towns and villages over time; currently all students from District No 5 attend Kane Technical HS (South Side) which serves portions of River Grove Township and Downey Village north of I-294 (and some students from North Side). The old "Taylorvillians" High School building located on Niles Road north side next to Kane Tech HS is now used by Aurora Central HS for band/voice/dance lessons during 4th period 9am-4pm Mon-Fri

Taylorville is a town in Dixon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. The name "Taylorville" was given to the community by General Andrew J. Taylor in 1853. The first settler in what is now Taylorville was John Slattery who arrived in 1790. He and his family were part of the pioneer group that founded Dixon County on the Sangamon River. In 1812, James Fenton established a ferry service between Dixon and Springfield which helped connect these early settlements. In 1840, construction began on a gristmill called by local farmers Adam's Mill (now known as Grumman Paper Mill). This mill became one of the most important mills in Dixon County and continued to be operation until it closed in 1912. In 1847, Isaac Phelps built a log cabin near present day Muscatine for himself and his wife Rebecca Ann Pidgeon. They would later move to this location and become owners of what is now Phelps Point Lighthouse which served as an observation post for military units during World War II. It wasn't until 1893 that Taylorville had its own post office which remained active until 1964 when it was moved to Dixon Junctionpost Office building next door.
Taylorville was founded in 1814 by William Taylor and his wife, Esther. The first store in the town was built on the corner of Second and State Streets. The town began to grow rapidly after it became a county seat in 1834. In 1839, the legislature created the towns of North Liberty and South Liberty within Taylorville. The two towns merged into one in 1871.
