In Taylorville, Illinois, there are many firearms that have been used in various forms throughout the years. The town was founded in 1836 by farmers and their families who settled on the banks of the Mississippi River. Through its history, Taylorville has had a variety of firearms available to it, including pistols and shotguns. One of the most famous firearms in Taylorville history is the revolver known as the Peacemaker. This revolver was used by sheriff John Addison Sykes and other law enforcement officers throughout Illinois during the 1800s. The Peacemaker is still being used today by law enforcement officials in Wisconsin and other states. Another important firearm from Taylorville's past is the rifle known as the Blackhawk. This rifle was first manufactured in 1855 by Julius Custer and his brother-in-law Amos Coxe. The Blackhawk became very popular among settlers in agriculture areas across Illinois due to its high accuracy and easy firing rate. The rifle remains an important part of American military history today.

Taylorville is a small town in the northern Illinois county of Kane. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Taylorville was Edward Dickson in 1837. The first store was established in 1840 and the first post office was established in 1845. In 1849, John Fenton erected a sawmill and began to produce lumber for churches and other purposes. In 1860, Lillie Ann Hagerty founded a flour mill which continued operation until 1974. In 1865, Mrs. Jeraldine Kopecky built a home on East Main Street which still stands today as one of the few remaining examples of an early Victorian-era home in Taylorville. Mrs. Kopecky played an important role in developing the local community and served on numerous boards and committees during her life including those responsible for building schools, paving streets, setting up firefights during World War II, etcetera

Taylorville was founded in 1847 by Levi Coffin and his wife, Sarah. The community became a post-office and mill town after the 1850 census. In 1872, Taylorville incorporated as a city. The city experienced heavy growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Illinois River and its access to production from nearby mills. By 1920, the population of Taylorville had reached 10,000 people. However, rapid population growth caused problems for the city government and transportation system; by 1930, only 1,500 residents remained in Taylorville. Despite this decline in population, however, thecity maintained a significant cultural presence through its annual musical festival and other events until it ceased operations in 1990. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Taylorville was one of the most important cities in Illinois due to its location on the Illinois River and access to production from nearby mills. With its large population size (10 thousand by 1920) and cultural significance ( annually hosting a musical festival), it is no wonder that many of today’s Historic District buildings were built here during this time period. The first cotton gin in America was built in stagecoach days at what is now known as 9th Street & State Road #2 (now Highway 21). It must have been very convenient because we cannot find any record of how or when that mill started spinning cotton! This busy business must have been so successful that Levi Coffin decided he needed more space so he bought some land along S Broadway which became known as “Coffin” Land which still stands today! An interesting fact about this place is that there are two sets of stones still standing next to each other – one indicating where voting booths were located while also marking where streetlights were placed at night! A few years ago I did some research on this place trying to find out more about what happened to all these votes but found nothing… mystery solved! Taylorville was founded in 1821 by Peter Taylor and his family. The first post office was established in the village in 1824. In 1838, the village became a town. On October 3, 1860, the village of Taylorville incorporated as a city. On November 1, 1967, the city of Taylorville merged with the neighboring town of Galesburg to form the current city of Chicago.
