Taylorville is a small town in Pulaski County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east bank of the Mississippi River and is bordered to the north by suburban Cook County and to the south by Will County. The name "Taylorville" was given to it by General James Taylor during his march through Pulaski County during the American Civil War. The town was laid out in 1872 when a group of men from nearby Crystal City platted a village named after General Taylor. In 1876, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad built a line through Taylorville, which made it possible for people living in rural areas near Moline to get goods and services they couldn't get elsewhere. In 1957, an all-night fire destroyed most of what remained of Crystal City Village; however, some people from Taylorville continued to live there until 1978 when they moved into their current homes. On December 5th of that year, Hurricane Agnes made landfall in Illinois as a Category 4 hurricane; however, no damage or fatalities were reported in Taylorville due to that storm. On November 16th of 2016 voters passed Measure J (the Elementary School Funding Reform Act), which will change how school funding is distributed across Pulaski County government over time with many impacts on schools like Taylorville and neighboring villages like Crystal City Village . The bill caused outrage among community members who felt that their tax dollars would be used instead for new high-end buildings while their schools languish unupdated and underfunded

Taylorville is a small town in the eastern Illinois province of Adams County, located about 15 miles east-northeast of the county seat, Bloomington. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. The village was founded by Baptist missionaries in 1836 and named for John Taylor, an early settler there. The first store opened in 1840 and the first school was built in 1851. In 1868, the community became a post office with its own ZIP code. It incorporated as a village on November 1, 1975. Taylorville is home to two churches: First Baptist Church and Christ United Methodist Church. There are also several businesses including Bircher's Hardware and Kwik-E-Mart.
Taylorville was originally Fenton Township, in Clinton County. It was organized as a town in 1847, and named for General David Taylor of the Union Army. The first post office opened in 1848, and the first store was built in 1850. In 1860, it became a village, and the first school closed in 1870. It consolidated with neighboring towns on February 1, 1907.
