The early ammunition stores were located near the river where people could get water for their weapons and cartridges. Ammunition dealers also sold firearms supplies, including pistols, shotguns and artillery pieces. In 1814, Major John Stephenson founded the Mount Carmel Rifle Factory in Taylorville. At this time, Springfield Armory was established in Springfield, Massachusetts as one of America’s leading military firearms manufacturers. Colonel John Muhlenberg (1802-1871) purchased the factory in 1825 and continued to produce rifles there until his death in 1871. During World War I (1914-1918), ammunition production increased significantly due to wartime needs such as munitions for both European and American troops fighting on different fronts around the world. After World War I ended, many manufacturing plants closed down due to economic conditions; however, Springfield Armory survived thanks to its partnerships with Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Remington Arms Company. In 1948, Springfield Armory became an affiliate company of Fox River Arsenal Inc., a major firearms manufacturer based out of Westchester County, New York City

Taylorville, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,415 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Taylorville was founded in 1836 by Edwin Taylor and his family. In 1847, the village changed its name to Taylorville after General George Washington's daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Betsy) Taylor. Mrs. Taylor donated land for a courthouse and school in 1875. The first post office opened in 1878 and the first store on Main Street opened in 1886. The local economy depends on agriculture and manufacturing. Agriculture includes corn farming; apples are raised; hay is produced; cheese is made; cattle are herded; eggs are collected; potatoes are grown; poultry raising is also a significant industry: chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, rabbits, pigs and lambs are all raised here. Manufacturing includes some light industrial activity as well as two large Sheet Metal Fabricators which produce stainless steel products such as window frames and door knobs from sheet metal items that have been cut into specific shapes using a shear method called "gutter welding." In addition to its agricultural production base there are also several thousand acres of forested property that provides hunting opportunities for deer and other game animals as well as providing firewood for heating homes during the colder months

Taylorville is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1871 by General George Armstrong Custer and his wife Cornelia Nicolay. A post office was established in 1872 and it remained operational until it was discontinued in 1904. The first settler to arrive in Taylorville was Levi Coffin, who arrived on July 11th, 1871. At the time of its establishment, Taylorville had no schools or churches; all residents were required to attend one of the nearby villages for instruction. In 1902, Village President Hosea Beshara ordered that all school supplies be bought from Chicago so that the villagers could build their own schools; this became an effective way for the villagers to improve their education and social life. In 1907-1908, a new cemetery was built adjacent to the old one; this helped make up for what had been lost during previous years of growth within the community. In 1909-1910, a new barns and other buildings were constructed; these were later used as storage areas for local farmers until they acquired more modern facilities around 1930 or so. One of Taylorville's most notable residents is millionaire entrepreneur Jens Weidner who moved to town from Holland in 1915 after starting his own successful textile business there which he later sold to Sears Roebuck & Co.; he also donated land to help create a park which still exists today (the Weidner Park). Reverend James Jourdan officiated at numerous funerals held at gravesite during early 20th century due to lack of available services elsewhere within Kane County; many citizens considered Reverend Jourdan "the father" of their townspeople because he played such an important role in developing it into what it is today! Ulysses S Grant visited Taylorville twice during his presidency – once on November 15th 1875 while attending a military engagement near Peoria (near present day Crystal Lake) and again on May 8th 1886 while traveling through Kane County along with then governor John Pemberton – both occasions resulting in large crowds visiting his home hereabouts! On October 3rd 1934 two members of Pearl Harbor attack squadron #2 aka The Bluebirds flew over Cambridge Township when overflying USS Missouri memorializing Japanese military aircraft shot down over America on September 2nd 1942 - becoming only two humans everto do so! This event has been generally recognized as oneof history's greatest aviation stunts! Notable residents have included: Drinker Bogle (founder/CEO Apple Inc.), Drue McMillan (commissioner general for Social Security), Bob Dole (Ulysses S Grant’s running mate), Mike Ditka (NFL player/co-owner Bears), Dick Cheney (Governor of Wyoming), Bear Bryant (Coach Alabama Crimson Tide football team) & current Mayor Adam Neumann
The first settlers in Taylorville were the Kents and their families who arrived in 1814. The town was named for General Andrew Jackson, who was then a general in the Union army. The first school was built in 1835. The post office was established in 1840, and the first store opened in 1845. In 1865, Taylorville became a village and had its own fire brigade.
