In 1881, Sycamore Manufacturing Company began producing bipods as a result of the development of a new way to carry goods. This was the first time that bipods were used in industrial production and helped make them more popular than ever today. The company has been manufacturing bipods since then and continues to serve customers globally.

Sycamore, Illinois is a small town in southwestern Illinois. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Carbondale–Munster, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1847 by Captain John Smith and his wife Hannah as a temporary stop on their way to the city of Carbondale. After reaching Carbondale, they continued on foot and wagon to found their village. The first post office was established in 1849. The first school was built in 1850 and named after Mrs. Smith's sister-in-law, Ebenezer Hanks. Sycamore has been located near Carbondale since its establishment as a village; however, it only became an incorporated town when it joined the larger area in 1951. The Sycamore Manufacturing Company (later known as Quadratech) manufactured munitions during World War I and World War II before ceasing operations in the mid-1960s due to military regulations limiting Bombardment Work outside of US soil. In 2006, Quadratech reopened under new management with plans for two new buildings: one for production use and another for storage capacity; both were designed by local architect Todd Denton with input from Quadratech employees themselves about what should be included within their workplace environment while maintaining its historical roots of innovation and creativity which have made Quadratech one of the leading employers in town today.

The town of Sycamore, Illinois was founded in 1836 by John S. Merrill. The town quickly grew due to its location on the Western border of the state and its rich agricultural history. In 1902, the town passed a bill creating a system of township government which remains in place today. The village of Sycamore was also founded in 1902 and did not achieve as much success as the town. However, it has since been renamed after John S. Merrill and is now an important community within the city of Chicago.
The Sycamore Township in Cook County, Illinois was organized on March 3, 1847. The first settler in the township was John P. Kneeland.
