Swansea is a city in and the county seat of McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. Swansea is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Cook County to the north, Lake Michigan to the east, and Will County to the south. The city is located on an estuary that forms part of the Des Plaines River and serves as a gateway into DuPage County for residents of greater Chicago. Swansea was founded in 1847 by Welsh farmers who had come to America looking for new land to farm after their homeland was destroyed during World War I. In 1855, Swansea became one of four towns in DuPage County when it was organized from parts of four other villages: Albion, Brighton Park, Caryville and Rockford Heights. In 1872, Swansea incorporated as a city under the name "Swansea Township." The name change came about because at that time there were no other cities or towns within McLean County with similar demographics to those in which Swansea would grow—Welsh people were more likely than others to identify with rural Wales than they were with town-like Jacksonville orChicago. In 1912–13 local developer Augustus Porter developed what would become known as "The Strip" – a development extending along State Line Road from Crestwood Avenue eastward through Swansea's then largely agricultural center into downtown (now called Swanston Square). This area now has several restaurants and bars including two owned by Trump Organization president Donald J. Trump Sr., his daughter Ivanka Trump IvankaTrump Tower) and her husband Jared Kushner Jared KushnerWalmart). Porter also built what are now known as First National Bank Plaza (northwest corner), Third Street Baptist Church ( southeast corner), Porter Boulevard (southwest corner), Swanson Drive (east side) and Providence Road NW (west side). After Porter's death in 1913 his son Julius created another apartment building housing many high-end properties across Northwest Indiana before developing them himself into One Lincoln Center – one of Chicago's most notable real estate developments until its collapse following the Great Depression some 40 years later

Swannanoa, or Swansea as it is commonly known, is a small town in southwestern Illinois. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Swansea was founded in 1847 by Welsh settlers from the town of Cwmbran on the River Tawe in Glamorgan County, Wales. The name Swansea originates from two Welsh words: syngwenny and banqueting ground. Banqueting ground means "the place where people gather to eat." In 1847, some of the original Welsh settlers decided to move westward and established Swansea on a tract of land that had been given them by General George Rogers Clark for their efforts during the Mexican-American War. This property included what is now called Park Avenue and much of present day Center Street. The first school in Swansea was a log cabin built by Reverend Johnathan Griggs in 1849. The first teacher was James Fenton who taught three grades before leaving for Ohio to be a missionary circuit preacher. In 1861, Mrs. Mary Willingham donated five acres of land near current day Main Street to establish a school district which would serve as an elementary and high school until 1912 when Carthage School District became operational. Mrs. Willingham's gift also provided land for future religious denominations which were able to build churches there such as First Baptist Church (1896), Methodist Church (1907), Presbyterian Church (1911) and Evangelical LutheranChurch (1920). The arrival of automobiles led to increased traffic congestion on Park Avenue around this time so Mr..Walsh set up shop on Market Street between Second and Third Streets in 1865 with his own car dealership providing transportation for customers from Washington Square up through downtown Swansea before returning home across Market Street at night using his horse-drawn carriage service known as "The Horse Coach". From 1865 until he died in 1922, Mr..Walsh operated one of America's oldest open air markets selling fresh produce from fields surrounding his house along with local wines coolers full of sparkling wine bottles imported direct from France In 1922, Community Development Corporation purchased the market site from Mr..Walsh's widow and began developing it into what is now Swan Pointe Shopping Center with modern shopping amenities including an eight story parking garage, several restaurants/cafes/stores including Target Field Store associated with Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox; movie theaters; Hawkins Golf Course; multiplexes; special events venues such as Art exhibit entitled "Swan Pointe: History & Heritage" held annually since 2006 featuring live music each year throughout summer months ending with fireworks over river weekend finale Today Swan Pointe Shopping Center offers more than just retail space; it also includes an indoor mall that includes anchor stores Macy's , Sears . It also has conference rooms used by various businesses such as Foxconn Technology Group located upstairs acrossfrom Macy’s department store A major redevelopment project commenced early last decade with construction beginning on Fallbrook Drive adjacentto Walmart Wholesale Distribution center resulting in renamed “Walmart Place” within less than 12months after approval by city council

The town was renamed Swansea after World War II's Battle of Britain in honor of British Prime Minister Clement Attlee who had fought in that conflict. On May 10, 2008, Mayor Wexler announced plans to rename the city's main street "Attlee Boulevard" in tribute to both Attlee and Mayor Wexler's father-in-law General Sir Harold Alexander who served as Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces Europe during World War II.
