The organization continued to grow and on October 14, 1892 they changed their name to the National Rifle Association of America (NRA). In 1934 NRA merged with the American Legion to form the United States Veterans League which would later merge with the American Civil Liberties Union.

The history of Swansea began with Welsh immigrants who arrived in 1871. They were prompted to settle because they saw great potential for agriculture in what was then a largely open-field area on Lake Michigan. By 1915 there were more than 2,500 Welsh residents living in Swansea; however, this exploded after World War I when many people came home to find their homes had been destroyed or taken over by Germans or Americans during that conflict. Afterward not only did property values plummet but people left for other parts of Cook County because wages there didn't keep up with those elsewhere in Illinois (at that time it was still part of Indiana). This trend continued until 1950 whenupon waves of Syrian refugees moved into Swansea – making it one of the most ethnically diverse communities in northern Illinois! The current population is approximately 1,856 which echoes its heyday back around 1915-1918 when 2,500 people lived here comfortably!

Swansea is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census.[1] Swansea is one of the most northerly towns in Kane County. It lies on the border of Kane County and Stephenson Township. The first settlers to Swansea were John Hammond and his family who arrived in 1836. The town was platted on July 2, 1837 by James Ewing, a settler from nearby Mount Prospect. In 1850, Michael Laughlin purchased land around Swansea for $2 per acre (0.68 acres). By 1860, Laughlin had built a grist mill and two stores in Swansea. By 1870, four buildings had been erected: one store building still stands today as the Post Office building; the second store was used as an agricultural Implement shop; and three homes were built: two are now occupied by businesses - JBL's PizzaRestaurant and Jens' Department Store - while one remains home to the Swanzey Historical Museum which opened in 1957. In 1865-1866, residents of Swansea pooled their money to build a schoolhouse which served as a community center until it burned down in 1886. A new school was built on Third Street near present day Interstate 80 about 1890-1892 using funds from another community pooling project that year. The old school building served as a storage shed until it burned down also in 1896. A larger school with more classrooms and wings was constructed on Third Street between Spring Street and Old State Road (now I-80) about 1898-1900 following plans by local developer Ewing Hargrave Jr.. After serving its purpose for many years it became dilapidated but caught fire again during an unrelated storm in 1978 resulting in extensive damage when parts of it collapsed after being struck by lightning! The current structure having been completed just before Hurricane Katrina made landfall caused extensive flooding which destroyed much of her predecessor’s infrastructure including all but one wing of her original School Building!
