Summit, Illinois is a small town located in the northern part of the state of Illinois. The population of Summit was 3,811 as of the 2010 census. It is one of two towns in Summit County and it is also the only village in Summit County. The village was incorporated on November 1, 2009. The first settler to arrive in what is now Summit was John Cook on July 24, 1824. Cook came overland from Michigan and named his new land after Mount Rushmore National Monument which he had seen from his horseback ride near Clear Creek Lake. In 1827, David Ransom founded a farmstead called Prairie du Chien about east-northeast of downtown Summit. By 1830, Ransom had acquired some additional land including what is now Niles Township (now Park Ridge). On March 14, 1830, David Ransom erected a wooden building known as the "First Store" at what would later become Main Street and Post Road in downtown Summit. This store served as the nucleus around which residential development would take form during the early years of Summit's existence. On May 25, 1831, Samuel Turney organized a meeting to create a township government for residents within Dakota County when he noticed that no such agency existed within his county limits. A vote was taken on June 2nd to establish a township government for residents within Dakota County with Samuel Turney presiding over its members; this organization would eventually become known as the "Summit Township Board". This board met each month at various locations until December 10th when they decided to move their meetings upstairs into what became known as "The Atrium", prior to becoming known as "Summit Township Hall". In 1840 though there were continuing complaints from some residents about inadequate services provided by previous township boardsmembers; an act was passed by the township assembly calling for creation of an efficient local government made up entirely of volunteers who would be paid by taxpayers through assessments levied against properties within their borders – this act became law and created Summits Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD). On October 12th 1846 James Wirtz established another tavern called The Lion's Head Tavern across Main Street from The Atrium where he ran operations until 1860 when it closed due to prohibitionism among neighboring townships? That same year also saw prohibitionist raids upon businesses operated within Summits limits spurred by anti-saloon crusaders led by Methodist preacher John Davenport; these raids resulted in several business closures throughout late 19th century Northern Illinois due To regulatory changes enacted during that time period necessitated by growing industrialization across much of America concurrent with burgeoning alcohol consumption rates

Summit, Illinois was founded in 1836 by a group of farmers and fur traders who were looking for a new home after the successful completion of the Michigan Trail. The town grew quickly, becoming an important center for trade and transportation. In 1851, Summit was renamed Chicago after General George WashingtonChicago Park and it became part of the city of Chicago in 1872. In 1961, Summit was merged with other towns in Cook County to form the City of Chicago. Today, Summit is a small community located about 20 miles northeast of downtown Chicago. The town first sprang up as a result of the construction of the Michigan Trail which connected westward from Ottawa County to Illinois. The trail crossed through what is now Summit Township on its way to Benton Harbor, Michigan. When the road was completed, many entrepreneurs started businesses in what would become Summit Township including storekeepers, furriers and clothiers. By 1830s most residents were farmers who used their land for subsistence farming or raising animals for their own consumption or export trade with surrounding communities such as Detroit and Marquetteville. Most residents hereabouts engaged either cattle or farm machinery production; however some saw opportunity to take advantage of advances in transportation technology that had developed since they last traveled into this area eastward some 25 years before when they first settled near Lake Superior on what is now Wapello County (now Minnesota). A wagon road running southeast from Green Bay across Plattsburg reached junction with another wagonroad just south of present day Northfield before turning due north towards Cadillac Heights where it intersected another road coming down from White Cloud Ridge on opposite side - these roads being bridged over by Indian War veteran Elijah Smith's " pontoon bridge" across Clear Creek just below present-day White Cloud Ridge today's Ford Road Bridge within easy reach by wagons passengers travelling between Grand Forks (northwest) & Cadillac Heights (southwest) while Peter Kapp himself supervised operations at one point daily! It took all summerlongrafting gear & three times daily ferrying equipment back & forth across this beautiful stream – must have been quite an undertaking! This crossing enabled travelers traveling east along I-94 which then continued northwest via Hwy Gratiot now Dearborn Ave., Big Rapids (now West Fargo), Clinton Rd., Overbrook Blvd., Spring Valley via Farmington Hills (& beyond!), Wabasha Lakeshore (& beyond!) to reach Battle Creek on one side—and Stonington (east)—or even Muskegon Falls Onaga Springs Preserve on other side just inside Racine County boundary; not only did this help shorten journey time but also allowed goods arriving at both destinations through either I-94 or Hwy Gratiot to be inspected before being shipped off! This early stage wagonroad has long been forgotten but remnants can still be seen today adjacent SR 394 just south Of intersection Atwood Rd./SR 428 Just outside###

The Summit community is located in the far southeastern corner of Illinois, just east of the state's capital, Springfield. The community was founded in 1872 by a group of white farmers who had moved from nearby Carbondale and built their first home on a small ranch that they named "Summit". The name "Summit" was chosen to honor the peak of Mount Zion, which is located near the town. In 1876, a group of blacksmiths and other laborers from Illinois were brought over to work on the new Summit schoolhouse. The school was designed by local architect George Stephenson and opened in 1877. In 1905, Summit became an incorporated town with its own government. In 1924, it became an adjacent city with its own mayor and council. In 1938, Summit merged with neighboring Carbondale to form one larger city. That year, it also became the capital of Illinois.
