In 1911, the city of Summit passed an ordinance that made it a felony to possess any handgun without a license. This law was intended to make it more difficult for people who were not authorized to own firearms to weaponize them against others. The ordinance Repealed in 1932. In 1938, the city of Summit passed an ordinance that made it a misdemeanor punishable by 2 year imprisonment and/or a $500 fine for anyone who possessed any firearm without having first obtained a license from the City Manager. This law was intended to make it easier for individuals who did not have licenses but wanted to possess firearms within the city limits. The ordinance Repealed in 1959 In 1975, the City of Summit passed an ordinance that made it illegal for any person under the age of 21 years old to purchase or possess any handgun with a serial number other than his own parents’ personal Gunsmith shop number on file at County Treasurer’s office. This law was meant to reduce juvenile access to handguns and improve safety in the city by preventing them from being ableĎfrom purchasing or possessing weapons with numbers that cannot be traced back to their parentsĎs shops

Summit is a small town in southern Illinois. It is located about 20 miles south of Carbondale and 30 miles north of Springfield. The population was 1,055 at the 2000 census. In recent years, Summit has seen significant growth both economically and socially. The village now enjoys a population over 2,000 people and has developed several businesses including two banks and three churches. The local high school has been renamed after Mount Rushmore National Monument (in honor of President George Washington) as part of an effort to promote tourism within the community. In 2013, Summit became an independent republic when it seceded from the United States and formed the Republic of Summit County. The name of the capital of this republic was changed to "Summit." The town has experienced some growth over the years; however, it remains primarily a farming community with few industry options or services available outside of agriculture. However, over time some progress has been made with regards to education and infrastructure development: In 1989, Summit began developing plans for what would become the world's largest open-air museum dedicated to American history; however funding never materialized and it never arrived on schedule. In 2015-16, Mayor Mussen announced that he had secured $25 million from private donors in order to begin construction on what will ultimately be called "The Renaissance Village." This project will include renovation of existing buildings as well as construction of a brand new building which will house several museums including one devoted to American Indian culture along with exhibits about local history and life within reach of both students and entrepreneurs alike!
The Summit, Illinois community was founded in 1871 when the town of Summit was platted. The first post office was established in Summit in 1872. The first store was built in 1874 and the first school was opened in 1875. In 1870, a mill was built and began production of flour, cornmeal, feed, and other products. A new courthouse and jail were built in 1911 and 1912 respectively. In 1931, the village of Summit merged with the town of nearby Mount Prospect to form the current city of Chicago.
