Streator, Illinois was once a small town that was known for its optical products. In the early 1900s, Optical Goods store in Streator was one of the most popular spots in town. This store sold everything from eyeglasses to telescopes to binoculars. The Optical Goods store closed in the 1930s, but it's still remembered today because of its famous telescope.
The community of Streator, Illinois is located in the northern half of the state of Illinois. The population was 9,537 at the 2010 census. The name "Streator" comes from a Creek word meaning "place where cowards hide." The first settler in what is now Streator was George Stephenson, who built a gristmill on the banks of the Kankakee River in 1815. By 1827, there were three stores and twelve homes in town. In 1829, John Strother bought land east of town and began to build a log cabin called Log Cabin Grove. Many settlers followed Strother to his farm and started to build homes aroundLog Cabin Grove. Today, most people in Streator live near their workplaces or schools. In 1847, General James Kountz arrived in Streator with his 1,500 men looking for new territory to settle after winning the Mexican-American War. He found many farmers willing to sell him land but also found many Indians who wanted nothing to do with white people. As a result of this conflict, Kountz decided not to move forward with his plans for a settlement and returned home without setting foot on American soil again for over fifty years. In 1907, Samuel Fuller opened Fuller's Hardware store on Main Street in Streator which became one of the largest businesses in town until it closed its doors two years later due to financial problems. However, Fuller's legacy lives on through Fuller's Diner which still serves as one of the longest running restaurants in central Illinois today! Today, much like back when Fuller opened his store there are still some residents living downtown who enjoy coming down during lunchtime or dinner time just for an enjoyable meal! There are plenty of businesses that have been established within walking distance (like Burger King and Dunkin' Donuts) so it's easy enoughto get around town without having too much trouble! One of the earliest examples of optical accessories was an eye mirror which was used by shamans in China around 1000 BC for divination purposes. This mirror had a hole through it so that the owner could look into another person’s eyes without being seen themselves (thus allowing communication). This instrument allowed people to measure distances using stars as pointers! The development of telescopes began with Galileo Galilei who built his own telescope in 1610 while living in Florence Italy (shown left). He started out by measuring how tiny objects looked under a microscope! After trying different techniques he realized that he could use light rather than sound to see things up close! Although this didn’t lead him anywhere particular it did inspire others like Kepler who also developed telescopes during this time period (shown right) It wasn’t until the 18th century however that we began seeing significant progress with respect to Optical Devices . One such device is lenses which allow us to see things clearly even though they are far away. Lenses come in two main types: clear and tinted lenses. Clear lenses allow you see everything within your view while tinted lenses filter out certain colors making them more appropriate for specific applications such as photography or surveillance video watching etc.. Streator, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 3,527 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1849 by John Streator and his family. In 1868, the community became a part of Peoria Township. It was renamed to Streator in 1903. The current name is based on George Washington Streator's parents' maiden name. The George Washington Streator Elementary School is one of the oldest schools in Illinois and has been in operation since 1876. The first settler in what is now Streator was John Streator who built a log cabin on the east side of Chicago River early 1800s A&P Ranch from Eads post office land In 1847 Isaac Hill surveyed an area including what is now called "Streator" creek on Bureau of Indian Affairs land he bought from the Sauk people at Waukegan Jackpot agency as part of Treaty 6 that ended the Black Hawk War John Crouch built a gin factory near present day Uniontown (now Barrington) around 1850-1852 under contract with Acton & Phelps for their millrace system A post office called "Streator" was established at this location on July 20, 1851 by order of Governor James Kossuth In 1865 Chauncey Hurlbut donated 160 acres to form what became nucleus township which included all or parts of present day Barrington, Uniontown, West Dundee and Crystal City On December 1st 1870 Chaunceur Hurlbut donated 320 acres to form nucleus township again including all or parts of present day Crystal City
On Decatur Street in Streator, Illinois was a cotton gin built in 1858. It was the first cotton gin in Illinois and the second of its kind in the United States.
