Streator, Illinois was once a center of holster manufacturing. This town is home to the now defunct Stroud and Stratton Armory Company, which manufactured holsters for over 100 years. The company produced a wide variety of firearms holsters, including those used by law enforcement and the military. Holsters are an important part of any firearm owner’s arsenal, and they can play an important role in personal defense. The first handguns to be manufactured in Streator were pistols. In 1872, John Fenton opened a gunsmith shop in the town and began manufacturing pistols using his own techniques and materials he had acquired from elsewhere. By 1875, Fenton had joined forces with Samuel Stroger and started producing revolvers under the Stroger-Fenton Armory name. The company became very successful and produced many different types of revolvers until it merged with another gun manufacturer in 1903. That company was named the Springfield Armory Company after Springfield, Massachusetts where the original factory was located. Holster manufacture continued to grow throughout the 20th century as more people became interested in owning firearms. There were numerous companies that manufactured holsters before Colt Defense Group came into existence in 1961 as a subsidiary of Colt Incorporated (now Colt Firearms). The company became one of America’s leading holster manufacturers with its line up of products that included pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles and ammunition carriers. Holster manufacture declined during World War II due to wartime production restraints but resumed afterward on an increased basis due to new consumer demand for security devices such as handgun safes and Second Amendment protection devices such as clip-on rifle coverings or shoulder stocks for shotguns.) The city of Streator, Illinois was founded in 1834 by Danish immigrants. The town grew rapidly due to its location and became an important center for the agricultural industry. In 1916, the city passed a resolution recognizing World War I as a time of great opportunity for Streator. As a result, businesses and citizens pooled their resources to support the war effort. Thanks to this initiative, Streator emerged as one of the most successful cities in Illinois during World War I. After the war, the economy crashed and crime increased; however, local officials responded by creating new programs that helped revive the city's economy. Today, Streator is home to many large companies and strong political representation.
Streator is an unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The name "Streator" originated from the Potawatomi word "straucheh," meaning "a small stream." In 1836, a Mr. Griggs established a post office in what is now Streator. A school was built in 1849 and served children until 1954 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1907, the first commercial oil well was drilled in Kane County and named "Streator Well". A store was built on Center Street near present-day Griggs Road in 1909 and continued to be operated by the original owners until 1927 when it closed due to lack of customers. The first gas line went into service in 1910 near Streator and became known as "the Gas Line of America" because it connected all of Illinois with natural gas supplies from Pennsylvania and other states. A post office called Griggsville opened at Griggs Road on March 15, 1911, but failed to receive any mail because no one lived there. On October 5th, 1911, PostmasterGeneral Alfred Pritchard ordered that all Ulysses S Grant's Forfeitures Cases be sent through Chicago so that they could be processed there instead of being routed through Knox County where most efforts were made to avoid attention from political enemies within the government during this time period (Grant had been impeached). With this order came understanding between local officials and citizens for how important postal services were for both local commerce and national defense during World War I; however, as only men could serve as Postmasters General at that time (and Mrs. Pritchard did not want her husband's political connections affecting her ability to continue serving), only one man held the position after Grant's death on November 6th 1916- Benjamin Hynes who later served two terms as Mayor of Chicago before becoming Deputy City Manager under John Bricker during Mayor Richard Mieseking's first term (1948–1951). In 1922 Streator got its own water system which began providing water to homes on Mayflower Avenue north of town center; however, due largely to ice storms during winter months salt had trouble coming upriver fast enough so homeowners couldn't use their linesadalsoonagers could build pump stations out back which required extra labor during those periods) . Municipal ownership ended with Water District purchase effective January 1st 1923 following merger with Cook County Drainage District #2 . By 1925 much more than half of town had telephone service although few people used them since most residents traveled outside town for work or services available within walking distance .. . By 1930 about 60%of residences had electricity while less than 10% utilized streetlights .... Most residents still walked or took public transportation outside town... industrial production increased significantly following bootlegging days around 1920s with many businesses opening up manufacturing jobs such as breweries brewing beer and clothing mills making shirts etc... HoweverDuring Great Depression many businesses closed including grocery store along Center Street

The boom period ended around World War II when production shifted to more modern facilities outside of Streator. However, through all these changes and struggles, Streator has always managed to remain strong and vibrant - even during difficult times!
Streator, Illinois was founded in 1831 by Captain John T. Streator and his wife, Sarah. The first settlers were loggers who mined coal near the present day town of Streator. The town was named for Captain Streator's father, Major James T. Streator. In 1849, the land around present day Streator was bought by General David Dixon and he renamed it Dixonville after himself. In 1871, a post office called "Dixonville" was established in the town and remained in operation until 1893. On November 25, 1892, the United States Post Office moved from Dixonville to Snelling and became known as "Streator".
