The town was named for General David Streator, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1881, Streator became the county seat of Kane County. These mills continued operating until they were dismantled around 1915 when land became available for housing development. However some parts such as Ives & Whitney remain standing today adjacent to Waukegan Square mall while others such as Goudreau & Carpenter are gone but their foundations still remain visible in various places around town including atrium flooring at Sears Tower A new high school was built on Main Street between Elmhurst Road and Wellesley Drive soon after instruction began there also becoming one America’s first high schools with an auditorium/ gymnasium both attached which seated up to 350 students inside each instances well into the 20th century Streator’s most famous resident may be Edwin Epps who played professional baseball for many years with several teams including Boston Americans (1892-1914), Cleveland Spiders (1915-1920), Minneapolis Millers (1920-1924), Milwaukee Brewers ( 1924-1939) – he even served as manager during two stints – then Detroit Tigers (. 1935-1945), finally Cincinnati Reds (. 1945) playing his last season in 1939 before retiring at age 38 Today much like it once did economically much has changed since World War II ended however educationally things haven't really changed that much with kids graduating high school here still working hard part time jobs while adults continue learning various trades starting right out In Elementary School like cookery then moving onto apprenticeship programs later On like plumbing up through carpentry Then vocational training continuing until you get your Professional License So if you're looking for examples or things that've happened recently go talk To someone older than you about it because chances are they've either been there or know something about it
Streator is a city in Illinois, United States. It is the county seat of Cook County. The population was 109,811 at the 2010 census. The first settlement in what became Streator was on the east side of the Pruden River, about four miles north of present-day downtown Streator, in 1824. A post office called "Griffin" was established in 1830, and remained in operation until 1865. Griffin opened on a spot near present-day North First Street and State Route 381 (now I-680) east of downtown; it had no mail service. In 1836, David Farnsworth built a gristmill on the south side of the Pruden River beside his farmstead known as Bald Eagle Station; this mill operated until 1845. In 1840, John Pemberton bought one acre (0.40 km²) of land at Griggs Run (now part of Streator), just south of Main Street and west of Center Road, for $50 ($ today). He named his new town after his late father's birthplace – Edinburgh, Scotland – and founded Pemberton Mill thereon. The village formed from parts of Griffin and Bald Eagle stations around 1842….Pemberton Mill burned down November 14th 1861 but not before James Wills set up an unsuccessful claim to its ashes….A new mill was built by Jno Meeks about 1862 but it also failed to operate successfully for more than 20 years…." There are several theories as to why Pemberton Mill failed: one story suggests that too much water could not be raised from the surrounding soil to produce flour due to lack of depth or width; another theory suggests that local competition from other mills doomed Pemberton because they could produce better quality flour at cheaper prices; finally, some believe that even if Pemberton Mill had functioned properly it would have been difficult to compete with larger mills which had access to more fertile ground."
