In 1886-87 three buildings were built on State Street in downtown Streator –one an insurance office and two stores catering to small businesses –the first steps towards becoming what we know today as "a busy little town." With this growth came advances in transportation including streetcars that ran through downtown streets; traffic signals; automatic lighting; water supply from wells drilled near Old Fort Dearborn across Big Creek; sewer systems; libraries/ museums/ educational institutions (including Normal School); parks with baseball diamonds and tennis courts; multiple schools (including “Tommy’s Academy”), churches (especially Methodist), grocery stores along State Street between Third and Fourth Streets during lunchtime hours only for residents who could afford it while also providing services such as hotel rooms for visiting dignitaries or conventions being held in town during those years: all this development took place without any taxes having been collected until 1908 when an assessment district was established taxing agricultural production! In 1924–25 Masonic Temple No 4 construction began on state high school campus northwest corner 3rd & Michigan Streets adjacent to current day Scottrade Center mall complex on then undeveloped lot now occupied by First Place Bank building! This temple-like structure still stands today complete with original stained glass windows dating back to 1925! furnishings added over time include several chandeliers still active now
