Steger is part of the Peoria metropolitan area and is home to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, a major employer. According to the 2000 census, Steger has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all of it land. The first settler in Steger was Abram Wirth who came from Austria in 1836. He married Sarah Bemis and they had 10 children. In 1872, John Fenton bought the lot that now forms the town square from Abram Wirth for $1 cash and three months' work labor. At that time there were no streets or buildings in Steger other than homespun stores and residences constructed by settlers on their own land close to each other - this remained so until shortly after World War II when roads were built through Steger making it easier to move people around while not damaging or taking away property rights。 In 1876 George Hinchliffe started marketing hay near his house on Elmwood Avenue which became known as "Hinch's Haymarket". All types of goods were sold including flour, candy bars, cigarettes, applesauce, etc., until about 1950 when Hinchliffe's son discontinued operations because he could not keep up with demand due to advances in technology; then things began to change as Chicagoans replaced Indianapolis-based manufacturers with local companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.; however even today much shopping takes place locally rather than traveling out-of-town for items like groceries . It wasn't until 1949 when Route 66 opened up along what is now I-55 that people started travelimg down Main Street instead of just driving north/south adjacent US Routes 11&63; this also led to more businesses coming into SteGER - many still remain today despite changes over the years! Steger is a small town in east Illinois, located about 20 miles west of the city of Springfield. The population was 2,953 at the 2010 census. Steger is named for General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steger, who served as Bavaria's military governor in 1809-10 and again in 1814-15. The first settlers arrived in what is now SteGER in 1836. By 1840, the town had a store and two homes. A post office was established at SteGER on November 3, 1840, and remained open until it was discontinued on October 25, 1912. In 1861, General George H. Thomas took command of Union troops during the American Civil War and ordered his men to burn SteGER to the ground. The event became known as "the Burning of SteGER." Most of the buildings that still stand were built between 1907 and 1909 by local contractor Jno. Pakenham & Son Inc.. The company also built three churches—one brick (1907), one wood frame (1909), and one metal frame (1911). "The Steelers" played a significant role in early STEGER history by setting up their own baseball team from 1908-14 before joining the Grayslake High School League for 1915-. They also won three state championships from 1913-15; one as champions of both leagues combined (.531). From 1916 through 1919 they played out of Brown Park before returning to STEGER where they remain today as reigning champions (.929). In 1924 they moved into new park territory across town which resulted in them becoming steakien champions for four years running (.871) before moving back to their old home field starting with their fifth championship victory there in 1951 (.910). The current ballpark opened on April 12th, 1988 with a record crowd attendance of 394 spectators against then archrival Grayslake High School which lasted just over seven innings due to an unseasonably warm day - this game marked only the second time thatSTEVER had been contested outdoors.. STEGER's success story continued when they joined MetroChicago United FC after winning their first championship title there four years later (.892) while also reaching two semifinal appearances .. finally culminating with their fourth championship title last year . . .was all within reach!
In 1847, the first post office was established in Steger. In 1868, the first railroad reached Steger and in 1875, a mill was built. The town started to grow quickly and by 1914, it had a population of over 1,500 people.
