Steger is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,988 at the 2010 census. Steger is located northeast of Chicago and northwest of Springfield. The town was founded in 1854 by German immigrants, who named it after Johann Friedrich Steger, an explorer who had crossed the Great Lakes in 1834. Steger became a post office in 1857, and a village in 1893. The name "Steger" also appeared on two local buildings: the first was built about 1870 and still stands; the second is a two-story wood frame structure dating from 1913 that has been converted into apartments. Today's Steger Village was developed around an agricultural center that produced corn, beans, eggs, honeydew creamers and other products during the early 20th century. Today much of the activity centered around dairy farming with cows grazing on large pastures outside of town while manufacturing took place inside small businesses such as bakery (now closed), grocery store (closed), tire shop (closed) and millinery store (now defunct). A number of theaters were opened in Steger during its early years: one opened by J.P. Morgan in 1908 and later became known asonestown Theater; another operated by Milton Hoadley from 1915 to 1920; and another opened by Roy Thomson from 1923 to 1926 before closing down due to financial problems.. In 1951 local artist Arturo Toscanini conducted his famous radio broadcast from SteGER's Opera House which remains one of the most noted events ever televised.. Additionally STEGER experienced many technological advances during this time including television production beginning in 1955 when KMWA began broadcasting live from STEGER Municipal Building using film projectors then becoming common throughout Illinois until being replaced by digital technology starting with WGN Radio Channel 9 beginning July 2009.. In recent decades STEGER has regained some level of popularity with wine-tasting programs such as Winemaker's Boot Camp which begins each September hosted by nationally syndicated wine instructor Chris Webber followed by tastings at various wineries throughout October typically ending with dinner at a nearby restaurant or microbrewery

At that time, guns were hand held devices and manual operation was difficult. To avoid accidental shootings, some manufacturers began to develop gun chokes that would secure the firearm's barrel against movement. One such manufacturer was Colt who invented their magazine release plunger style gun choke in 1892. The use of a gun choke allowed for more accurate shooting as it prevented unauthorized individuals from firing firearms without knowing how to operate them. The popularity of handgun chokes began to grow during World War II when ammunition became scarce and people needed to shoot faster than they could reload their weapons. Pistol shooters also started using handgun chokes during wartime because they were less likely to lose accuracy while firing an automatic weapon operated by manual dexterity. Shotguns continued to be popular even after handgun choking became standard on assault rifles due to their ability to reliably fire multiple rounds per minute with little chance of malfunctioning. Some companies continue making traditional shotgun or pistol grips even today which still feature traditional shotgun or pistol grip stocks with pistol grip screws (known as “billet stocks”) that allow for easy installation of choked barrels on any rifle or shotgun model regardless of stock configuration

Steger is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first settled in 1836 by German immigrants who named it Stegerhausen after their farmstead in Germany. The Steger family operated a grocery store and post office for many years before moving to their present site in 1872. The community originally centered around the Agricultural Institute (now known as Central Illinois University), which served as its main cultural and social center until 1972 when it merged with Bloomington-Normal to form the Bloomington-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1905, two brothers, John and Harry Steiger, opened a general store in SteGER village that became one of the most successful businesses in town during its early years. John Steiger also served as township treasurer from 1918 to 1922 and 1924 to 1928; he also ran for election on four occasions as mayor (1903 through 1906). In 1955, Harry Steiger reopened his store and continued to operate it until his death in 1978. After John's death, his son James Hirsch took over operations of the business until he sold it to his brother-in-law Fritz Heuser in 1984. In 2003, steGER Village achieved national attention when local residents successfully lobbied Congress to designate it an official historical district within the National Register of Historic Places due primarily to its significant contributions to local history and culture throughout its nearly 100 year existence%. In 2006, steGER Village received another distinction when President George W Bush recognized it with a Presidential plaque during ceremonies held at Central Illinois University's Gerald R Ford Presidential Library & Museum located adjacent to STEGER Village on Johnson Street near US Highway 14A.
The first white settler in Steger, Illinois was John H. Steger who arrived in 1855. The town of Steger was founded by George Prentice and his family in 1856. In 1861, the village of Steger merged with the town of Carbondale to form the city of Carbondale. The city was renamed Carbondale on July 1, 1907.
