Over time, many other settlements were established in what is now St. Charles County including Chicago Heights (1893), Arlington Heights (1902), Elmhurst (1904), Lombard (1906), and Prospect Heights (1907). Unfortunately, all but one of these towns closed down within a few years due largely to economic reasons such as competition from larger cities or because of natural disasters like hurricanes or floods! However, some notable exceptions include Arlington Heights which has since become a major center for technology startups and Lombard which remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area!
