Louis Antoine de Bougainville claimed the land for France on July 14, 1790 after landing onshore at present-day St. Charles Harbor while exploring parts of what would become Illinois: Cook and Fox Counties were added to France’s Louisiana Territory on November 15, 1800; St.Charles Parish was organized on December 12th of that year under French Governor Jean-Baptiste Carrier with Revocation Act No 715 effective January 1st 1801 The first permanent English settler in what would become St. Charles was James Brewer who came ashore along with his family around 1680 near present day Pembroke Island Inlet which he named Brewer’s Prairie because he found seed there that germinated well among other plants he found inland including many wild hemp plants which had been discovered earlier than him by Pierre Marquette and Jacques Marquette during their explorations along this coast in 1673-1675 Brewer moved his family northward to what is now downtown StCharles in 1797 when they leased 2 acres from Nicholas Jourdain for $100/year In 1803 Jourdain sold his interest to Andrew Cushing who donated 320 acres (12ha) northeast of downtown to build a town called Cushing Grove which bears his name today Cushing laid out streets grid fashion starting at Dearborn Street then moving east until reaching Main Street where it turned southeast towards Pembrey Beach before turning northwest back onto Dearborn Street again before terminating at Washington Avenue near present day White Flint Hospital . This town grew quickly but no school was built due to funding shortages caused by American War I – instead Indianola Academy opened up nearby providing education until 1922 This academy closed its doors following World War II as all schools were segregated along racial lines thanks to President Harry Truman’s “All White Schools Act” - African Americans continued to receive inferior education even after desegregation arrived across America leading some people such as Harold Wolkowski argue "In spite of some advances since integrationist policies ended more than fifty years ago almost all black children now attend integrated public schools" Further white flight began following Civil Rights Movement protests against rigged buses and housing quotas through 1960s suburban migration into inner city areas like Chicago while white collar jobs left central cities behind leaving these once vibrant neighborhoods increasingly abandoned except for a few hundred people living mainly off social services orarters such as Friendship Heights near Capitol Hill or North Lawndale

St. Charles, Illinois is a small town in the west central United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County and part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first St. Charles settlers were Irish Catholics who arrived in 1815 from County Clare. They founded a small community on the banks of the Des Plaines River, about three miles west of present-day St. Charles Township, then part of Kane County. In 1836, they moved to what is now eastace Township and built a sawmill on the site of their original settlement which still stands today as part of Eastace Mill State Park (www.eastacestatepark.org). Despite this growth, there was no permanent structure erected until 1861 when a schoolhouse – also called limits block house – was built at 7th & Delaware Streets near where current-day Elmwood Avenue intersects Second Street (now Dempster Avenue). During World War II, St.Charles became one of several Uptown Chicago areas that were bombed by American forces during Operation Market Garden on September 11th 1944 (www2aam9pmcommissionedbymayorchicago"). The buildings damaged or destroyed include: limits block house; Holy Name High School; Angelus Catholic Church; Saint Bernadette’s Chapel; Trinity Episcopal Church; Saint Patrick’s Cathedral; Josephine Grammar School; All Souls Howells Nursing Home #4}; Today's economy relies heavily upon agriculture production including corn ethanol production and much smaller amounts for manufacturing including foundry products such as cast iron cookware etc., all while maintaining significant rural infrastructure needs like water availability
The first European to visit the area was Jacques Marquette in 1679. The area that is now St. Charles was at one time part of the French colony of Illinois. In 1812, General James K. Polk named the area in honor of General Andrew Jackson, who had helpedliberate the United States from Mexico during the Mexican-American War.
