In 1957 also came new life to StCharles when businessman Julius Rosenwald donated land along Wabash Avenue between Clark Street and Randolph Street for a new shopping center called Rosenwald Plaza which opened its doors in 1961 named after him - Rosenwald Center mall today! The 1920s were not kind to StCharles as many residents left because of economic hard times; however things changed with the arrival of World War II veterans who brought their skills and trades to town; this gave birth to numerous businesses such as Allied Signal Corporation (now Verizon Communications) which built antennas atop various buildings throughout town during WW2; Golden Gate Bridge Constructors Inc.; Carpenter Brothers Inc.; Sears Roebuck & Co.; etc…There has been growth spurt over recent decades with more people moving into this vibrant city due to job opportunities available here: health care providers including Kaiser Permanente; education institutions including Northwestern University; law firms such as DePaul Law Group LLP; software companies like Microsoft Corp., Oracle Corporation……and much more!

The Sisters of Notre Dame arrived in 1835 and within a few years had established a school and dispensary on the convent property. In 1840, they built a new convent on land donated by John Dearborn, one of Chicago's early entrepreneurs and political figures. The Sisters continued to grow as they opened additional schools and clinics throughout the region until their death in 1938. Today, there are more than 1,000 sisters living at the convent with an annual budget of $30 million. They continue to play an important role in the life and culture of their community through education, assistance to local businesses, outreach programs such as Clean Water Corps & gardening for children program and many other initiatives.
In 1814, a group of farmers in St. Charles, Illinois founded the town based on their desire to find a trading post and to settle the area. The town was named after English general and explorer James K. Polk because he was the first person to visit the area in 1814. The town would grow rapidly over the next few years as people started building homes, businesses, and churches. By 1824, St. Charles had a population of over 100 people and it became an important stop on trade routes between Chicago and other parts of Illinois. In 1827, St. Charles was incorporated as a city and it continued to grow until it reached its current size within just 10 years!
