South Holland, Illinois is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population of South Holland was 1,854 at the 2010 census. The Village of South Holland is the smallest community in Kane County and has no incorporated municipality. It is a unincorporated community located within Kane County. The village has been described as "a quiet farming community that's home to just under 1,000 residents." The Village of South Holland was founded in 1875 by John Ladd and his family. At the time, it was one of the few villages in Kane County. It became a village on January 1st, 1955. In 1959, South Holland had its first school building which served students from kindergarten through eighth grade until 1978 when an addition were built for high school students which served until 2004 when an additional wing were added to serve middle and high school students as well. In 2002-2003 new plumbing installation replaced old cast iron piping system that dated back to 1881 which had become clogged with years of use and damage from rain events that caused flooding throughout the year during winter months. In response to this problem new pipe systems were installed consisting of two sets of pipelines - one beneath ground while the other was elevated aboveground - both designed to prevent future flooding problems as well as improve water flow all around the village including through storm sewers into neighboring communities more easily accessed by cars or trucks than before due to raised pavement along streetside gutter lines making it easier for runoff water to enter homes through these areas without being diverted into storm sewers). This project cost $2 million dollars and took three years to complete making it one of Kane County's most significant infrastructure investments since its inception. In 2013-2014 an update project was completed adding new sidewalks and streetlights throughout the Village; resurfacing arterial roads; painting buildings exterior walls white with black lettering; providing landscaping for several hundred yards fronting Main Street; installing LED lighting inside buildings on dark evenings; repairing numerous leaks/punctures in earthen pipes over decades totaling about $14 million dollars worth.
