He started a company called Colt & Son in Danville, Illinois. Samuel Colt was also from England and he immigrated to America in 1847. Together, they founded Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company in Danville, Illinois. The company made pistols, shotguns, rifles, revolvers and other gun accessories. In 1865, the company merged with Remington Arms Company of Philadelphia County PA to form Remington & Sons Incorporated (now part of BAE Systems). This merger allowed Samuel Colt to continue making firearms under one roof as well as distribute them throughout America.
