South Elgin, Illinois is a small city in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was platted on December 14, 1847 by James P. McCormick and his brothers-in-law Gideon Pease and Nathaniel Pease. They named it after their father's home in Elgin, Massachusetts. The first settler in South Elgin was John Hickey who bought land from Gideon Pease in 1848. He built a cabin on the east side of US 12 near what is now Elmhurst Elementary School. In 1850 Hickey sold his land to Isaac Wheeler and Wheeler built a house on the west side of US 12 next to what is now White's grocery store. In 1851 Isaac Wheeler married Anna Bigham and they started farming around milepost 5 on the old road leading from Aurora to South Elgin. In 1865 Abraham Jernigan arrived from Michigan with his family and started farming around milepost 8 on that same road about two miles south of where he lived today. In 1867 Jesse Kapp bought some lands southwest of South Elgin from Abram Jernigan for $5 per acre; this area became known as "Kapp's Field". A year later, Kapp donated all or part of his farm to the local school system for use as an elementary school site (now Elmhurst). On October 16, 1870 Joseph Ladd purchased 2 acres (0 hectares) north of Kapp's Field from George Capps for $2 per acre; this became known as "Ladd's Hill". In 1871 Jernigan donated 1/4 acre (0 hectare) southeast of Ladd's Hill to the town for schools purposes only; this became known as "Jernigan Park". On May 3rd, 1880 Samuel Ewing made an offer to purchase 1/4 acre (0 hectare) northeast of Ladd’s Hill from Julius Keppel for $1 per acre; Keppel accepted and marked that parcel off onto his map as "Ewing’s Farm". There were no real industry or commercial enterprise until after World War I when automobiles began arriving in South Elgin during its rapid growth due to advances in transportation technology such as autosripsportation which allowed goods and people mass transit across long distances without having to leave their homes or go through customs inspections

In 16th century England, gunpowder was invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte whonamed it after his father Nicholas-Jacques Conte (1492-1555). Gunpowder quickly replaced cast iron cannonballs as the main artillery projectile in battle because they were much more powerful and accurate than Prior Artillery projectiles like arrowheads and darlings. Cast iron cannons were vulnerable to fireballs that would ricochet off their metal surfaces which made them easy targets for enemy cavalry or infantry troops. Cast iron cannons eventually fell out of favor in favor of gunpowder projectiles because they required a lot of labor to make them functional and they were less accurate than various types of artillery projectile that had been developed earlier such as bow bullets and crossbow bolts. In 1551, John Hawkins (1493-1657) discovered new ways to store gunpowder which led to the development of modern cannonball propellant powder storage techniques which allowed guns to fire roundshot with far greater accuracy than before! However, cast iron cannon didn’t die out completely until the early 18th century because there weren’t any better alternatives available at that point in history!

In 1862, the U.S. government began developing a new type of artillery shell called an "explosive" or "aluminum" round that could penetrate armor and explode inside the vehicle or infantry unit it was shot at. The alloys used in this round led to improved performance over earlier rounds and allowed for increased firepower at a much lower cost per pound than traditional artillery shells. In 1865, America's first armored car was built with both wrought iron plates and aluminum rounds that destroyed most enemy vehicles within five miles of their launch site
South Elgin, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Chicago. South Elgin has been populated for over five centuries and was founded by English settlers in the late 17th century. The community began to grow rapidly in the early 1800s as a result of its location on the southern edge of what would become Chicago. Today, South Elgin is home to a population of around 9,000 people and is one of the most diverse communities in Cook County. The economy of South Elgin relies heavily on agriculture and manufacturing although some recent development has taken place within the community such as the opening of a new high school and arena.
The first mention of the town of South Elgin is in a 1194 document from the Township of Foxville. The township was organized on November 15, 1815, and was named for Captain William H. South Elgin who served in the War of 1812.
