Today there are more than 100 structures in Skokie including homes, businesses, churches/synagogues/temples/museums/libraries/, schools (grades K-12), hospitals (including Parkland Hospital which became Parkland University HealthSystem in 2003), etc., making it one of America's most diverse small towns. One popular feature of Skokie life is its annual country fairs which take place during summer months at various locations around town - typically Memorial Day Weekend or September 4th each year. The fairgrounds often have rides and games for all ages as well as food concessions such as BBQ restaurants and concession stands open late into the night; however, parking can be expensive so come early if you want to Validate your spot!

Skokie is a village in the Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Skokie was founded on November 3, 1856 by George and Martha Stephenson as a small farming community named Spring Grove. The name change came about because of an advertising campaign by John Prentice & Sons, who offered to send wagonloads of potatoes to anyone who changed their name to "Skokie." By 1860, the village had a post office and three stores. In 1871, the first school opened in Skokie with 30 students and six teachers. later that year the village acquired its own water system and began selling soap products from a store on Wacker Drive. On October 1, 1881, Skokie became one of twenty-six villages incorporated within Cook County; this made it possible for people in other municipalities to raise chickens and pigs without having to leave their homes. The opening of the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 caused incredible growth for Skokie; businesses opened up all around town and more people started moving into the area. This gave rise to growth rates that were unprecedented for any village before or after that time. In 1912, thanks to increased agricultural production due to better soil management practices brought about by immigrants from Hungary, Slovakia and Romania (the so-called "Great Migration"), Skokie boasted over 10% Unemployment among men age 16-24 years old! The population growth continued until 1960 when suburbanization took hold throughout Cook County as families moved away from downtown areas in search of larger houses with gardens available for gardening plots. During this time period there also emerged what can be considered Skoki's first professional sports team: The American Legion's Tigers played their home games at Hammonds Field starting in 1907 until 1948 when they moved into nearby North Park Stadium which remains today as one ofskOKi's most popular tourist destinations! One major reason why so many different types of businesses quickly cropped up during this time was due diligence on behalf of those running these new towns - city planners hadn't yet realized just how much potential there existed forSKOKIE sandwiched between two large cities! In recent decades things have come back full circle for SKOKIE with significant redevelopment taking place along Wacker Drive including several high-end hotels/resorts projects as well as an ambitious plan called "2Town" which aims to bring together residents from both sides oftown via streetcars that will run directly between SKOKIE & downtown Chicago every day except Sundays! While some challenges remain such as rising crime rates (particularly concentrated near Wacker Drive) overall things are looking very positive for SKOKIE – especially given our long history OF welcoming newcomers AND standing behind our community values!"
The town of Skokie was founded in 1847 by John D. Rockefeller and his brothers, Edwin and John. The town was named for their father, Solomon Skokie. The first post office was established in 1848, and the first store was built in 1850. The population of the town increased from 100 to 3,000 by 1860. In 1871, the city of Chicago annexed Skokie, making it a part of the city.
