The Shorewood Pistol Club, Inc. started competition shooting in the town of Shorewood, Illinois on October 15th, 1903. The first officers were Capt. John W. Hickey and Lt. George A. Smith. In 1912 members of the club met at a pistol convention in Chicago to create regulations for the sport of pistol shooting which they later submitted to the NRA's Magazine Regulation Board. On May 1st, 1915 members organized themselves into two townships - North Shorewood Township and South Shorewood Township - with their own magazines and firearms stores within each township limits only. In 1916 Northshorewood Township changed its name to Cook County and Southshorewood Township changed its name to Lake Forest Township On July 16th 1922 both townships merged into one entity known as "Cook County Rifle & Pistol Association" with Capts Hickey and Smith serving as President and Vice President respectively In 1926 Revolver Shooting section was added to CRLPA which became an official part of NRA In 1930 Second Amendment Protection Act was passed by Congress increasing gun registration requirementswhich caused some member clubs to disband or merge
Shorewood, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,441 at the 2010 census. It lies to the east of Springfield and to the west of Chicago. The first Europeans to visit what is now Shorewood were fur traders from Canada in 1795-96. The name "Shorewood" may derive from a Shawnee word meaning "good land." In 1812, John Logan founded the village of Logan and named it after himself; this name lasted until 1836 when it changed to Shorewood because of its location on Lake Michigan. In 1837, George Stephenson built the Erie Canal through Cook County and called it Lakeshore Junction after his home village on Ontario's shoreline. This gave away Shorewood's unique distinction as being one of four places along the canal where different types of products could be unloaded simultaneously. In 1886, an act was passed by Congress which mandated that all school children must attend public schools in order to prevent them from attending private academies or homeschooling services; this law remains in effect today. The first post office opened in Shorewood on October 9th, 1888. On October 12th, 1890, Shorewood had a population of 589 residents and mail was delivered by boat across Cook River until 1893 when a railroad arrived and then took over delivery service. On July 1st 1909 there was an scare when two torpedoes were fired into Lake Michigan just off shore near present day Kearny Island causing fear that they might hitshoretownship but they missed completely by about 4 feet only creating curiosity among some people who thought they had seen something strange while looking out their windows! On November 11th 1914 SHOREWOOD lost touch with civilization due to heavy rains which flooded most everything within 10 miles including main streets leading into town center making communication impossible for everyone not just farmers living close by! One account claims that like “a great white wave crashing against shore” all communication went dead including military units stationed nearby; however another account claims that during the downpour “the telegraph wires snapped like twigs”….still others claim that power lines got caught up in sandbars and were knocked down so no wire ever reached shoreWood even though towers should have been able to pick up any signal….. nonetheless everyone inside buildings had generators running so no one died although water did enter homes through broken windowpane’s….. also part of this time period were WWI draftsmen working odd jobs in town helping rebuild after being evacuated due fire damage done during pandemic…… finally on April 14th 1925 light came back into town center following 3 days without rain or thunderstorms!!! With electricity starting up again people celebrated with flags flying at half staff thruout towncenter!!!! back then our fathers would take their fishing rods out onto curbside & cast around for catfish…………….today we enjoy fireworks displays every Fourth Of July!!!!! monday through friday night!
