In the early 1800s, Shorewood was a small town in Illinois. There were only a few families living there and most of the people were farmers. The local gunsmiths madeShotguns, Revolvers and pistols. In 1819, Elisha Stevens built the first store in Shorewood. It was called Stevens' Store and it sold goods such as flour, milk and tobacco. At that time, shotguns and revolvers were the most common firearms in America.
Shorewood is an unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. Shorewood is located on the shore of the Fox River. The first settlers in what is now Shorewood were farmers who arrived around 1836. By 1840, there were six families living in the community. In 1854, a post office was established at Shorewood and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads arrived in Kane County during the early 1860s. Railroads brought with them jobs and new residents which soon led to neighborhoods being developed around the original Post Office and stores on Main Street. For a time, it seemed that everything else but farming could be done hereabouts as well (not true!). By 1870, there were ten families residing in Shorewood while by 1880 there were twenty-six households. In 1905, when it became apparent that more people would be moving into town and less would be coming back to live hereabouts due to developing shells along Main Street (due to advances made by Edison Electric Illuminating Company), Shorewood had its own post office built which still operates today! In 1934, the United States Post Office began offering shotgun shells filled with compressed air as an alternative to lead-based ammunition for hunting large game. This allowed small hobbyists and hunters to become involved in the shooting sport by sporting these rounds in their shotguns. By 1949, when Winchester introduced its first pump-action shotgun, the company’s line of airguns included models using both manual pumps and electric pumps. The introduction of blowback operated guns – such as those used by police officers – made airguns even more popular with shooters who desired a higher degree of control over their firearms. The original settlers were Protestants and they named the town after the woodsy shoreline where they had landed on their ship. The community grew rapidly, and within a few years it had a grocery store, post office, school, and church. By 1875 Shorewood had become an incorporated village. In 1925 Shorewood became one of the townships in Cook County when that county was created from part of DuPage County. As Shorewood grew more popular, it began to attract residents from other parts of Cook County as well as from neighboring states such as Indiana and Missouri. In 1958 the town annexed adjacent communities of West Chicago and East Chicago. Today, Shorewood is one of the most populous towns in Cook County with over 12,000 residents. Shorewood's history begins with its founders who came to America in 1854 specifically because they wanted to find a place where they could practice their Protestant faith without having to worry about persecution back home in Hungary. Even though hardships were experienced during their stay here (such as lack of food and water), these brave people were determined to make their new home work for them and provide what they considered to be basic needs such as healthcare, education, and community development opportunities for all citizens no matter his or her economic status or social standing within society. It is interesting to note that even though many members of this first wave emigrated directly from Hungary – including some who died trying Crossing the Atlantic – none accepted any blame for what occurred once they arrived here; rather each person chose to live life according to his or her own strengths individualized experiences which would ultimately create what we now call "the American dream." As time passed throughout those early days there was also limited interaction between different groups due mainly to language barriers (which still exist today). This led eventually into cohesiveness through shared experiences which would later be called "the village" feel inside these small villages across America starting withshorewood at that time- something that still persists today despite current technology advancements © We can only imagine how wonderful it must have been during those early days when everyone knew each other intimately both formally/ informally through gifts given away or word-of-mouth gossip! One thing is for sure: if you wanted something then you went out And got it! With so many people living close together on foot or bike all day long there wasn't much need for anything more sophisticated than common sense
shorewood was founded in 1836 by John P. Shore and his family after they moved from Ohio. The town was named for the wooded area near their farm. It became a small village in 1856, and it had its first post office in 1865. In 1898, the town incorporated as a city. In 1940, Shorewood merged with neighbouring town of Arlington to form the current city of Chicago Heights.
