Shiloh is a small town in Shiloh County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the eastern part of the state and is bordered by the counties of Ford and McLean to the north, Carroll to the east, Peoria to the south, and Kendall County to the west. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1857 by John Hargrave as a small Presbyterian settlement on land that had been donated by General Israel Putnam. The name references an event during Mexican–American War when American forces burned down a Mexican fort after capturing it. A post office called Shiloh was established in 1857, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1892, Shilohs first high school opened for students grades 7-12. In 1923, Shiloth High School became the first public high school in Illinois to offer correspondence courses (now known as college level coursework). In 1943, World War II began with America's entry into World War II; Shiloh became one of several towns located within miles of military production plants which were designated "assembly points." As war continued to rage throughout Europe and Asia there was an increased demand for ammunition; as a result, many local businesses took advantage of wartime shortages by selling Ammunition products such as Earmuffs.

There are still some remnants of rural life such as farms that dot the landscape; however most residents now live inside the expanding city limits of Springfield proper which have made it one of Illinois' fastest-growing communities over the past few decades.
