Shiloh, Illinois is a small town located in the Ozarks of Missouri. It was founded in 1824 by Col. George Armstrong Custer and his family. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the junction of two important Routes of the West, which facilitated trade and transportation. In 1848, Shiloh became the capital of Territorial Missouri following the Louisiana Purchase. The city continued to grow as an agricultural center until World War II when it become a major naval base and munitions production center. After the war, Shiloh declined as a commercial center while its population dwindled to less than 1000 residents by the early 21st century. However, since 2000, it has regained some of its former importance as a cultural and educational center for Ozarkians across both states. As one of America's original towns, Shiloh holds a significant role in American optical history dating back to at least 1824 when Colonel George Armstrong Custer established himself here as an officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. As one of only a few communities within Missouri that were directly impacted by western settlement during this time period (the other being Springfield), Shiloh experienced exponential growth from 1824-1848 due largely to cross-border trade between Illinois and Missouri along two important routes: Old Spanish Trail and Santa Fe Trail. This increased commerce led to more people moving into what was then rural Ohio County (which makes up most part of northwestern Illinois) seeking opportunities for land development including farming and timber extraction; these settlers would later create what is now downtown Shiloh." In 1840, after years of debate over whether or not to build a courthouse near Springfield proper or move it downriver towards Decatur Village – which had been growing rapidly – Colonel Custer finally decided on building his own courthouse on property he had purchased east of Springfield known today as Court House Square containing both public buildings (a jail/lumber yard complex known as “The Turk”) and private residences (one now known as Armstrong Place). With such immediate impact on local society - especially given Illinois' legal landscape at that time - Court House Square quickly became one of America's most influential civic sites throughout much OF 20th century suburbanization which continues through today with nearly every Upscale Chicago Neighborhood having their versionof Courtship Squares scattered throughout their neighborhoods... acquired either through forced annexation or purchase from previous occupants during WWII boomtown consolidation wave." It wasn't until 1860 that work began on what would eventually become Wallenpaull Hall – home turf for many UI students who would attend nearby Iowa State University; however despite initial promise this project stalled due to financial constraints brought about by Civil War tensions surrounding Chancellor Abraham Lincoln's decision not to accept Confederate military surrender terms instead opting for honorable withdrawal under General Ulysses S Grant... resulting in UI students occupying various campus buildings until fall 1865 when all but 2 buildings were vacated after Union troops burned down Carver Hall." During this time period too there was significant growth in glassmaking adjacent to current Downtown Shilohl with three main businesses involved long before present day Northwestern Glass Cooperative opened shop in 1916: J & L Haskins Optics store operated out front where they still offer services today; Poultney Glass works inside Belmont Warehouse while also manufacturing 100% recycled glass products there using old windows from stores closed during prohibition era; Mockridge Glass made entirely outta window cleaner bottlesclickers!" In 1850-60 there was significant growthshipping transcontinental goods via Old Mexican Road Crossroads linking Mexico City with Omaha & Council Bluffs via Des Moines then Omaha" meanwhile "item traffic along Great Western Road decreased significantly" meaning "Indian Country route traveled shorter distance connecting Wichita Territory westward past Fort Dodge & Ft Kearny" leading ultimately "to greater reliance upon wagon trains utilizing trails running parallel thru Indian country"> . By 1870 lumbering activity had ceased completely within central Ohio County although some remains are still found around Moberly east side [of Springfield]." Unfortunately 640 acres adjoining contemporary Downtown Springfield were auctioned off conditionally achieving just $1 per acre vs $5+ per acre currently paid for Forest Preserve District lands allowing almost 500 families claiming right at Drumcondra Oaks Golf Course where homes once stood priorToShopping undeveloped residential parcels now situated behind Walmart Supercenter."

Shiloh is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1814 as a small village on the east side of the Mississippi River by German immigrants and was named after General Daniel Shiloh, who fought in the Mexican-American War. Shiloh has been home to University of Illinois students for over 200 years and has been an important center for education in McLean County. The first public school in Shiloh opened in 1827 and served as the only school until 1840 when a new building was built. In 1865, Shiloh became part of what is now Illinois Township. In 1907, it incorporated as a town. The municipality boundaries were changed several times between 1907 and 1959; however, all changes left Shilohlians within their own municipal government with police services provided by respective township governments rather than directly by the town government. The current municipality boundaries were created on February 15th, 2009 when Township 7 (East Peoria) merged into Township 2 (West Peoria). In addition to its role as an educational hub for many years, Shiloha also enjoyed some fame during World War II due to its proximity to Chicago and its ability to supply munitions needed for the war effort. Due to this notoriety and its location near major metropolitan areas such as Chicago and Springfield IL, much of what makes Shiloha unique today can be traced back to this time period too: most notably its vibrant shopping district known affectionately as "The Brick Patch" which remains one of Mclean County's most popular tourist destinations today despite being largely abandoned since the late 1800s due to development nearby.
